Random Thoughts on ... Husbands and KDrama

Image
Recently, my husband and I went to the cinema to watch Skyfall together. I enjoyed it a lot - because it is more like Batman than Bond, because Bond looks like a much cooler version of Vladimir Putin, and not least because there is a lot of cyber-terrorism, another grand passion of mine. Analytically speaking. But that's not the issue: One of the previews before the main film was Twilight - Breaking Dawn, Part 2 . Even in the cinema, my husband was, like "that looks cool" - "have you seen the twilight movies?" - "should we go watch it?" - ETC. Would you believe it?! I can't seem to calm down about this. First, I'm the one into vamp stuff , not him (though I must admit he really liked Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula and The Fearless Vampire Killers, probably before I even heard of vampires . Oh, and he gave many volumes of the insane but rather impressive Necroscope Saga by Brian Lumley to me, which I then, indeed, read). Second...

Nice Guy - My Way (Guest Post)

Image
Now that Nice Guy is over, I have a big, Song Joong Ki shaped whole in my heart. For ten weeks, I cringed, I cried, I sat on the edge of my seat, all in anticipation of the last episode.   And then - OK, wait, WHAT?   I have to say this last episode left me kind of embarrassed at my own stupidity. (I later realized I wasn’t alone.) What I thought it was, it wasn’t.   Or so SJK later said in an interview.   I still loved this drama, but m y mind needed to fill in the blanks. So who better to give me what I want, then me!   Here are two endings I’d be happier with.  credits: DramaFeverBlog Sad but Satisfying – MaRu Dies Previously the bionic man, having been beat up, jailed, and in tip top shape cardiovascularly from climbing all those stairs to his place all those years, MaRu realizes he will never have the strength to get the love confession to Eun Gi out of his mouth. Desperate to stop himself from running to the police station t...

Farewell to ... Vampire Prosecutor 2 (Part I)

Image
This is one of the shows I watch(ed) raw. Why? Because it's so damn good I can't even wait for subs. The problem: My Korean is so basic I understand about 2% of the entire dialogue. Sure, there's a lot of action, so I get the gist of what's going on ... but the details, the wretched details, they allude me. Tonight finale was incredibly gripping. It kept me on the edge of my seat (though I'm lying down with my laptop on my knees) and I might not be able to go to sleep easily. Too much adrenaline. Granted, I don't have a clue what actually happened but I know that much: I am going to MISS THIS SHOW! And I now also know what I don't like about it; the American format of several seasons. Who is it that Min Tae-yeon sees in this last shot? I will not know until September 2013! Did *SPOILER* survive? I will not know until September 2013! It is pure torture. How will I survive a whole year before I can see more of Min Tae-yeon? If you do it the American w...

Update on ... Stalking Lee Jun-ki

Image
This woman here did some serious preparations over the last few days. I was getting ready to stalk ! Lee Jun-ki is on record tweeting the following on November 1st: "Yes, yes, if there is Swiss family you may see me in mid-November" Granted, this is a big vague. But let me tell you this: even a 1% chance of Lee Jun-ki setting foot on Swiss soil gets my heart racing. And so I prepared: 1) I did research. For example, I learned these rules by heart (after translating all the dialog into Korean). I also interviewed some 'professional' stalkers (JYJ fangirls, mostly). They were very reluctant to share their tricks, but I still managed to learn a few.  2) I bought a tent, a new super-warm sleeping bag and a new flashlight. And supplies (among them Swiss army cookies and Swiss army chocolate). Given the vagueness of the arrival, I have to be ready to do some bivouacking over at the airport. It's a camouflage tent because bivouacking at the airport is not allowed ...

Anticipating ... Jeonwoochi (Update)

Image
I present you with ... a 13 minute preview video of the upcoming Jeonwoochi! D-5!   Okay, let me be honest with you. I don't actually post this here for anybody else but myself. It's as simple as this: I have a tendency to 'lose' awesome YouTube videos, though 'lose' is not that well suited an expression for simply not finding them anymore. The perfect solution? Post the videos on the blog. I do know where my own blog is so I will always be able to find them again.  (as long as they're not deleted)

Random Thoughts on ... Wrist-grabbing

Image
This is not a new or particularly original topic. I'm sure there's 100 posts on this already. But ... allow me to add the 101st. Because: Is there one single drama without wrist-grabbing? If there is, I have yet to see it.  (can you guess the drama? the first one to get it right will received some Swiss cholocate!) There are at least two types of wrist-grabs in KDrama : a) The Wrist-Drag-Grab Setting: The heroine is having a conversation with the third leg of the love triangle, aka the second lead. They are chatting amiably. She is, of course, not really interested in the second lead, while the second lead is very much interested in her. First lead sees the two getting along well, and major jealously results. First lead waltzes over, grabs the wrist of heroine lady and drags her away from lusty second lead. Purpose: Claim woman, show competitor she is yours, show woman who her man is. Variations: There are several variations of the Wrist-Drag-Grab, as the re...

So Why Do You Watch This Stuff..... (Guest Post)

Image
a.k.a. 3 Things to Tell Your Family and Friends When They Cant Understand Your Love For Kdrama Anyeohaseyeo! Jeu neun bcook imnida. Hi! I'm bcook, a friend of Kakashi and she invited me to guest post here. Kamsahmnida Kakashi! I've been a kdrama fan for a long time. I started out with Full House (which was showing on my country's national broadcasting station) but really got into it in college when my friend introduced me to Jewel in the Palace. 26 CDs and many sleepless nights later, I went home for xmas and they were showing it on TV! I saw it as a sign and haven't looked back. My family and friends still don't understand why I'm such a fan so I get the why question quite a bit. So why watch a show that's not in your language? 1. The Escape. Kdrama's are Nigerian movies without (much) overly over exaggerated facial and body expressions, Telenovelas without the over the top emotions and passionate , and American Soap Operas without the ran...

Confessions of a Pedonoona (Guest Post)

Image
Some of you may know me as Korazy Lady.  I'm filling in for Kakashi today, so I decided  to tackle a subject that she swears has no relevance to her *wink wink*.  This is my first foray into blogging. "Pedonoona: A combination of the word pedophile and noona (a Korean word referring to an older girl), a pedonoona is an older woman or girl who is interested in a young male idol in an inappropriate and sexual way." (urban dictionary) I recently became acquainted with the word “pedonoona” during a lively discussion of Korean dramas among a group of somewhat middle-aged women. The plot - who cares! It was the actor/idol guys getting all the attention. Ha! I scoffed. That word doesn’t apply to me! I am not attracted to underage guys, not ones under 25 anyways (wait, how old is Kim Bum?) And I don’t have pictures of young’uns on my computer (no officer, Song Joong Ki only looks 15 in that shower scene!) And I’m not actually lusting after them, at least not inappro...

Random Thoughts on ... Rain's Behind

Image
SCANDAL!!! Beloved Hyun Bin, kisser supreme (have you seen this ? But hello! NSFW and rated 18+) is soon coming out of it, on December 6 to be exact. This feels kinda wrong - where did the two years go?! Where is my youth? Where is my life?? Beloved Rain, dancer supreme, is still in and for another year at that. Doesn't if feel like he's been gone for far longer? Time is so weird! Apparently, he is having ... fun. Who is this he is holding hands with?! And who is this touching his behind?! (via http://www.bandstalker.com/). That should be the scandal everybody is talking about, not the IU/Eunhyuk triviality ! Hands off, short guy in the suit! Rain is ours!! This applies in particular to his butt.  Enjoy (via http://purplezest.wordpress.com/2010/05/11/rain-got-back/).

Random Thoughts on ... Product Placement in KDrama

Image
Coffee, cars, mobile phones, clothes, shoes, food, ... there is So.Many.Things.In.KDrama that I covet. I guess I'm the perfect victim for product placement. And boy, is there a lot of that in KDramas! Starting to look out for product placement (PPL) is not advisable, however. You know why? It is a certain recipe for spoiling any innocent viewing pleasures you might otherwise have. Once you start looking, you cannot help but notice. So: Do not try this at home! It was my current hate-love Nice Guy that gave me the idea for this post. Episode 8, in fact; where PPL is so thick, there's hardly anything else but products. And heartbreak. But Nice Guy is not the only show that does it, far from it. What I'm presenting you below is just the tip of the iceberg. If you happen to be a media or communication studies student looking for a topic for a Master thesis: this would be one. You can do hours and hours of drama watching, all in the name of science. Clothing / Shoes In...
