Fengjiu woke up with a start.

She glanced around the tent they had been staying in for the last five days, and then at the unconscious man lying on the pallet.

For five days she had positioned herself at Donghua’s side, had not gone through a meal where she would not see him stir, jump to his side and leave the rest of the food for Si-Ming to finish. But her body was not reacting much to the lack of food or rest; the clarity of her mind had also not been affected at all. Her hand was often clamped securely around Donghua’s; she’d fall asleep monitoring him, and any small movement from him she would feel and wake up almost instantly.

If Feng Zhiwei was honest, moving closer to Ning Yi was not really necessary. It was warm enough where she was, in that space underneath the blanket that she shared with him, even if her right side was considerably warmer than her left that was only barely covered.

Yet, she considered it.

The reason was, as soon as Ning Yi had somewhat reluctantly fallen into a restless slumber, Feng Zhiwei started to feel very uneasy about the creepy place they were in. Without anything to occupy herself with as she lay idly, she became acutely aware of strange sounds echoing through the large hall, a moaning and sighing, soft, but very mournful, and when she strained her senses, she even thought she heard footsteps behind the panels.

Feng Zhiwei decidedly did not like ghosts.

So, when the fire in one of the basins suddenly let out a loud pop, sending a flare of…

kakashi: I'm trying to find out where Chen Kun is in this picture, it's definitely Europe, could be Paris. Not sure what happened to his flowers........(waiting for Jo to run with this... in 1....2.......3)
JoAnne: Hmmm...oh! I know: proof that he's unable to function since you're not there...   Over the weekend I watched Painted Skin: The Resurrection and also Mojin, The Lost Legend.  I thoroughly enjoyed them both but was especially wowed by how gorgeous and how sad Painted Skin was.  I dearly want to see the first one but it's not available in my region at all, not with subs.  Not even to buy, sigh. Maybe I'll just watch Resurrection again - it was certainly good enough for multiple viewings!
Panda: Hi and Bye. Last week working for now, and I am both excited and terrified. Hehehe. Binged Lucifer (campy, silly fun) and couldn't concentrate on anything enough to read subtitles so guess will watch all remaining HPL episodes this week. Have a great week a…

Kinou Nani Tabeta/What Did You Eat Yesterday Episode 6 (Recap)

Image
Sorry about the delay in recapping. It is true that I was very busy this weekend with all day events at work; however, episode 6 is exactly the kind of drama episode about which I hate writing. I know some people find embarrassing situations hilarious, so many people are going to probably list this as their favorite episode. I, on the other hand, get no pleasure out of embarrassing situations for essentially good people. And this episode is a cringefest.
I found no pleasure rewatching to do this recap, so I’m going to make this one as short as I can manage (as you know I’m no good at summarizing). But this recap will be a little different. I won’t recap in order of the episode’s storytelling like usual, but I’ll recap each cringeworthy situation.
Oh Shiro, what are you thinking?

“Bai Qian, did you go out of the shield alone?” asked Yanzhi with a disapproving sigh as soon as Bai Qian and Pojing met them at Qingqiu Cave’s entrance. Perhaps she should have left them some kind of message before leaving the shield because judging by the looks on both Yehua and Yanzhi’s faces, they had probably believed that she’d been out looking for Luoji for revenge. Though compared to Yehua, the Ghost Princess’ reaction was on the mild end. He was looking unlike himself despite the outwardly composure.

SakiVI: Quick hello and goodbye from me so I can say something below.  Otherwise, I am on hiatus until June. Unless I change my mind. Which I might because I am like that.
Trotwood: Slow, surreal week. Couldn't remember the day of the week or the time. Traveling overnight and between time zones will do that. Watched some dramas though. Trying to get to end of month to have a bit of a slow down.
kakashi: Still in that wormhole and suddenly it's Monday, well TUESDAY again! It's scary.
JoAnne: TELL ME ABOUT IT.

Something was wrong and Bai Qian could not understand what it was, something that had created a deadly hollowness inside her. It was not Zheyan’s death, or Moyuan’s betrayal, or how their meeting at Kunlun had gone. It was an unsettling darkness that consisted of all things she was terrified of, threatening to take away what she had left.

Kinou Nani Tabeta/What Did You Eat Yesterday Episode 5 (Recap)

As always thanks to kinounaniresource on tumblr for subbing this drama. It’s like a gift of the perfect blanket. She’s also subbed ep 6 and loves the show, so I’m pretty sure the subbing will continue to the end.

She has Masters in Japanese studies, so she is not only fluent in Japanese, but she also gives other cultural information that is so important to really understanding the show like the New Year's traditions that are central to episode 5. She also has translated reviews of the show (good) and provides other information that you'd get from being able to read articles about the show.

According to her, the show is doing really well in Japan, good enough to garner talks of a sequel. The only problem with that would be trying to fit anything around Hidetoshi Nishijima’s schedule. But why wouldn’t he be in high demand? He can pull off every single genre!

kakashi: I had good intentions this week. Like: Watch Lucifer, all ten episodes. But then, I got into a wormhole and now it's Monday and I have NO IDEA where my weekend went. I protest! I didn't sign up for this!
Trotwood: I love traveling but not necessarily unplanned and because of worrying situations. So many shows I want to start watching, but I'm not going to. I've given up on weekends being this catch up time. I'm just going to be happy to do enough laundry to have clean socks and underwear for the week.
JoAnne: Wait, what. *Pulls Trot off to the side.*

Kinou Nani Tabeta/ What Did You Eat Yesterday? Episode 4 (Recap)

Image
I would like to thank kinounaniresource for subbing this drama. It really is a boon to have someone do quality subs for a Japanese show, especially because subs are so few and inconsistent. Remember how there were no subs last week, and I thought I’d be able to catch up? Well our fantastic subber actually subbed two shows this week, so it looks like I will remain a week behind. Sorry to people who want recaps at the same time as episodes get subbed.

Perhaps it was time he stopped keeping up the appearance that everything was fine, Moyuan decided when dark spots started to flash before his eyes.

Zilan, he recalled.

kakashi: I bought flowers for the garden this weekend! Could have bought many more and guess what... probably will, hahahahahhaaa.
JoAnne: Did you buy flowers from an alien planet?
Yes, how did you know? (Update: it's gonna freeze tonight, my poor babies :((((((
Trotwood: I can relate. I'm still wearing gloves outside all morning. . . in May.

Kinou Nani Tabeta/What Did You Eat Yesterday? Episode 3 (Recap)

Image
Bad news: There isn’t a new show subbed this week, but I’m not complaining because the subber promised to come back to subbing next week. I’m just thankful for subs in general for a Japanese drama, and then I found out that the subber’s first language is Finnish! Makes me feel like a slacker.
Good news: This means that by doing the recap of episode 3 this week, I will be completely caught up since I’ve been a week behind. I will actually be able to do recapping while a drama still airs, which I know is more popular with people. This also means that I will probably eat less this weekend. This show makes me cook a lot more than I would usually now that I live alone; I even made sure I had the ingredients to make lasagna this weekend because the previews to the next ep show Shiro making lasagna.😋

**Note - I am going to follow the direction of novel in the next two chapters instead of the drama. Thanks to Ninja Reflection at https://ninja-reflection.com/ for the translations that I used as the inspiration for this chapter!

The palace grounds were much bigger than she had ever realized, but how could Feng Zhiwei have known when she was always so busy as Wei Zhi? Or, she corrected herself mentally, how could she even have come here as Wei Zhi when this area was reserved only for the women of the harem, their royal children and their servants.

In the course of one night Qingqiu had become full of foreigners, all of them dazed and exhausted, all of them in need of healing. Celestial soldiers who managed to escape the Nine Heavens got the worst of injuries. Some of them had never seen their Crown Prince before in their lives and were given some peace of mind by his presence at Qingqiu, though the ease and comfort were short lived because they were soon reminded that they had nowhere to go back to.
