Kcon 2014 - The Good, The Bad and the (Downright) Ugly

Image
I'm behind on my Roommate recaps because I just got back from a trip to LA which included the 2 day extravaganza of Hallyu, Kcon. Never one to pass on an adventure (except possibly the ice bucket challenge, which I don't care how uncool it makes me look, I have no interest in doing) I was really anxious to experience all Kcon had to offer. And yep - it was an experience! So let's start with the GOOD 1)  The concert. I only attended one night of concerts, but if I was to do it again, I'd definitely go to both. It was really fun (and the 16 year old Korean American kids I sat next to were sooooo nice!) and a good way to see multiple groups at one time. BTS' choreography was spot on, Spica is sooo talented, Jung Joon Young moves like an Asian Mick Jaggar and CNBlue was amazing! Who knew the terribly meh actor Yonghwa could totally blow you away when on stage. Girls Generation......oh wait, this is the good section. CNBlue 2)  The glowing multi-colored light st...

9 Things I Loved About Gu Family Book

Image
Hi Everybody, I'm Nabi!  I enjoyed guest-posting so much (my cathartic review of Faith is here ) that Kakashi kindly agreed to let me try posting under my own screen name.  This is my first solo post, which I hope you enjoy, and with luck perhaps it will not be my last! (Warning: this post contains Spoilers!!) So why  Gu Family Book , which ended weeks ago?  Because a few months back I decided to try starting my kDramas only after they had already finished airing -- the agony of weekly viewing was wearing me down!  And so, while the rest of you may have moved on, I'm still basking in the glow of the my most recent kDrama obsession. Gu Family Book  was by no means perfect (the ending was pretty lame, in particular), but on balance I would say it was more good than bad, and it was the first kDrama to crack my Top 20 list in months, coming in at #11.  In honor of the nine tails that we never saw, here are nine things I loved ...

What is a Gumiho/Kumiho/구미호??

Image
aka. Why everybody is afraid of puppy LSG LSG = Lee Seung Gi First off, it may seem that this blog community is watching one of two show *cuts eyes at the squeecaps people* but that's not the case! Some of us *cough* me *cough* are watching Gu Family Book (GFB)! GFB is an epic story of a young gumiho who wants desperately to be human. Why? you ask. What's a gumiho? Why is it bad? Why can't he learn to love himself for who he is!!! What's not to love? Well, Gumiho stands for nine tailed fox. A Gumiho is a mythical creature ound in Korean, Japanese and Chinese fables/legend/myths. It's kind of like a bad fairy or a shapeshifter. The Gumiho is a carnivore and traditionally takes on the guise of a woman to trick/lure men to their doom (where have we heard that story before?)

If you are anything like me, you are mightly confused by all the new dramas that are about to start. This post is my way of ensuring I don't miss anything I don't want to miss. So lucky to have a blog for such moments of confusion. Yesterday, I shared my love for Special Affairs Team TEN2 , which premiers on April 14, and I guess there will be more about it on this blog very soon. Not sure how many episodes there will be, but I'm guessing 9-10.   >>Will definitely watch. In fact, cannot wait!    This weekend, on April 6, I Summon You, Gold is starting. Love the title ... NOT. I'll keep an eye on it, though, cause one of my favorite Korean actors is in it. Yes, it's Mr. Vampire Prosecutor, Yeon Jeong-hoon! I'm pretty sure the drama is crap, but I've watched a lot of crap just for some actor I like. And I can be very determined if I want to be. This drama is planned for 50 episodes. WTF, 50??! >>Will probably watch, but only after a ...
