The Problematic of the Unproblematic

Finale week for Flower Boy Next Door ! We are about five hours away from the airing of episode 15 in Korea. @TvN_Flower has released some more pictures (some of them preview material) and it does not look like we are going to get a lot of angst. Which is good. If a show does angst, I want it to a least give us four to five episodes of it. Well... I don't think I want to comment on this look.   Spanish gangster.  This is a picture from Park Shin-hye's birthday last week. I guess this is how much she is allowed to eat? About 100-200 calories worth of birthday cake? Doesn't he look so much better with black hair?! I think this is from the wrap-up party.   Watanabe. He was underused. 

Flower Boy Next Door has finished shooting this week. Unbelievable, it will be over soon! Whatever way they'll take it (angst or noble idocy or not), this show was a big and overall pleasant surprise for me. Sure, the show has its faults ... but altogether, these characters are among the most intriguing I've ever seen in KDrama. And there was Kim Ji-hoon - my newest KDrama love - and his tweets. Well, he has not been quite as active on Twitter these days (maybe because shooting the end was so demanding? Or because he is a little bit depressed, just like his character?), but whenever he does tweet, I so enjoy his humor. Though I only understand half of it. The background had already been set by Faith , so all it had to do was continue the historical tale. And yet, and yet..I could write the most verbose exposé on this show. But I'll keep it short and sweet. Let's start with what they got right. *Spoilers ahead* Mok Do-Ryoong Portrayed by Choi Jae-Woong, Mok Do-Ryoong is probably the only consistent character in the whole drama. He plays the seer who finds the Purple Enclosure Site (which is the cause of all worries) and actually DIES protecting the site because of his belief in it! His love for the princess Young-Ji and for Ji-Sang (Ji Sung) puts him up there for husband and father of the year. He had a pretty awesome eye patch too! Which editor you ask? THAT editor!  The name of the funniest woman on Korean TV (ever?) is Kim Seul-gi. She was born in 1991, her Twitter account is @s911010 , and she is part of the Korean SNL cast (as Go Kyung-pyo used to be, who plays Dong-hoon). Not only is she incredibly funny, she can also sing. Wow. I have such a huge girl crush on her! See this video with her and Jay Park (who is taking Kyung-pyo's place, I hear), in which she is a girl that finds out that her boy is experiencing sexual urges that she can't fulfill ( English version ). But hello, Korea! I think I must watch Korean SNL? This is indeed already everything that the English Internet knows about this girl. That's a shame, really. She doesn't even have a proper name in Flower Boy Next Door , but she sure has left an impression. This post is dedicated solely to her... so read it carefully ...  RIGHT NOW! My last Swimming Pool post was a bit lame. Well, not really lame... But a bit too intellectual? So I decided to do another one. This time, with men being half-naked and nothing else. To find 5 additional swimming pool scenes with half-naked men, I had to bend the rules a little: Usually, my Top 5 posts only contain dramas that I have seen. Hmmmm ... way to end, drama, thank you very much ... NOT . And the wait for finale week begins! Damnation!!! *mild spoilers* I think can forgive this drama the slight (mis)step into noble idiocy territory. However, I would have preferred a slightly different take. I would have preferred Enrique to make the right decision of his own free will. The right decision, for me, is to go to Spain, do his thing, and then come back. A choice between career and love is hardly ever a choice for either or. He can go to Spain for a while and come back. They can chat with each other on the phone or on skype every single day. She can go with him for a while, or simply visit. He can visit her. Millions of people on this earth have long distance relationships --- and they work! It's really not such a big deal, drama ... E.T. phone home For me, this episode showed particularly well how much Jin-rak has changed through the interactions with both Enrique and Dok-mi. And what a great human being...
