New Year's Eve Dinner Party with lafer and kakashi

Image
Goodbye, I'm leaving!! kakashi: Hello! We're back . And now, we're getting serious ... lafer? Will you do the honors? Tell us whom you are going to invite! lafer: Right off the bat, I'd have Song Joong-ki to my left and Ji Sung to my right. Yes, I know, about as surprising as your Park Shi-hoo and Lee Jun-ki. But lest you think I'm shallow enough to be swayed only by adorableness, let me assure you that I've seen various interviews with both these guys so am not giving these seats away lightly. Yes, lafer. I'm also going for brains rather than looks. This is about a dinner after all, right? And we will talk, right? Well, I'm not sure exactly how much talking we'll do, because let's face it, there is a slight language barrier. But we can pretend to be listening with rapt attention... while gazing into their eyes...... My hangul is perfect for the occasion. I can say "oppa", "sarangae", " kamsahamnid...

Random Thoughts on ... Lip Sins in KDrama

Image
My grabby-hand noona friends (I mean this in a very endearing way, girls!) and I have noticed something strange that seems to have taken root in KDramaland. It's make-up related. Lip make-up related to be precise. I guess it's a trend when four subsequent or parallel dramas do it? The horror! It looks as if their lips were stained instead of using lipstick in a proper way, or like they just had lunch and then forgot to touch up ... But see for yourself!  Someone a bit more knowledgeable among us suggested that they might in fact be trying to go for the so-called ombre-effect. But does ombre effect equal looking like they just ate a strawberry but forgot to wipe their mouths? Certainly not! It could and should look like this: Wow, that's beautiful!! Try again, make-up people! The second lip-related disaster that seems to have become a trend is color that is completely off the charts. This woman just looked into the mirror: And this ... Isn't...

My Top 5 ... Tree Scenes

Image
This post seems random? Hey, it totally is! The ideas for these Top 5 lists are generated like this: I think about what to write about next, a random image appears in my head, and I turn it into a Top 5 list. Here is five trees that I remember from the KDramas I have seen. Since my memory tends to be focused on short-term things more than on long-term things, and trees in dramas are usually not all that well-represented and noteworthy, you shouldn't be surprised to see two very recent dramas (with relatively little tree exposure) being considered. No 1: Iljimae  Iljimae was a rating hit back in 2008 and it had two of my favorite actors in it: Park Shi-hoo (how many days before I can see you again?!) and Lee Jun-ki. Ah, Iljimae ... thinking about you makes me nostalgic. And always sad. I'm still not sure whether he actually dies in the end? Or whether the ending seems to suggest he is still alive? Or is it just the idea of him that's alive?! I want to believe he live...

Random Thoughts on ... Yoochun and the Sexy Girl

Image
After reading about how some Yoochun fans vehemently oppose one of his co-actresses (Jang Min-in-ae) in the upcoming drama I Miss You due to some, hm, smexy pictures (and, as some claim, bad acting in the past), I started thinking about purity, or the image of it, in KPop and KDrama. And about super-scary-crazy fans ( Xiahpaws, Chunsas and Jaeharems? And they have hymns, code names, hierarchy ranks, and spies? Really??) , but that's another topic. To be honest, the complete lack of sex scenes in KDrama that make you appreciate even just the 'eyeloving' and crave even for the smallest touch between a potential couple is one of the reasons why I like KDrama so much more than US shows.  In that sense, there are a lot of similarites between KDrama and British period pieces like Pride & Prejudice or North & South (my husband calls them "lady films"). Romance is not shown in the form of sweating, grunting bodies, but as a pure and noble venture, always c...
