Rants and Weekly Raves (RAWR) #357

Anne: This is my first time at starting the RAWR post. While I do not watch the breath of dramas that Trot watches, and I tend to watch a lot of stuff late, I will try my best to keep this post going to offer everyone a place to come and discuss their favorite current dramas.  I still have not gotten around to The Broker.  Even though Luo Yunxi looked like a badass... and it's the first time I've ever seen him fight like Jason Bourne... (Update) Okay, I did watch like 30 minutes of it. But I doubt I will continue. The heavy handed propaganda in that odd scene with the FL and her "professor" where one spoke English and the other Mandarin has put this show forever on the shelf for me. Sigh...I think I'll wait for his BL drama. For this week, I want to introduce something new. I want to start a conversation on the role that made you a fan of a particular actor/actress. I've been thinking about this for quite a while, about what exactly captivates the audience, wh...

Anne: Trying a different color... I watched a bit more this week. I'm dreading Monday because it's jury duty time. I haven't gotten a notice for at least 10 years, and within 3 months of changing the address on my driver's license, I get selected! On the upside... I can spend a LOT of time watching shows as I wait in the jury pool room. (On a side note... I'm really liking this color.) Trotwood: I never get picked!! There was a point where I was hoping to be picked and be sequestered because I was so tired of regular work and I wanted an excuse not to have to respond to anyone, but alas I never get picked.   (Updated on Monday night) I think everyone feels that until you actually go through one of these... I'm so glad I have unlimited data because the Voir Dire always drags on that feels like a very long and unproductive meeting. I actually never have actually been "picked" as a juror, just for jury duty into the general pool. As soon as I saw that the...

Anne: I will try my hand at starting the weekly RAWR... Although sadly, I haven't watched much this week. I've been occupied with my new role as the party planner for my department and creating presentations for our new hirers. The new Dr. Qin debuted...and it stars one of my favorite actors (Zhang Yu Jian). Can you tell how excited I am? Trotwood: I'm still here! Next week is my last week. What show is this? Are you adding to the dramas that look interesting but we will probably never have time to watch category? What's funny is that I had this on my list as well. Medical Examiner, Dr. Quin is EXACTLY my kind of show, but really if I don't have time to start a show when it first starts, I know I'm never going to have time to watch and catch up, especially with 3-4 episodes coming out every week. Yikes! That's the pace? (Why am I even surprised?) I actually did start this...it's quirkier then the one with Zhang Ruoyun. Although... do not ask too many qu...

Trotwood: There are a lot of people I know who experienced flooding this past week. I hope everyone has dried out somewhat. The drama flood keeps coming. I don't know what to do about these dramas that are putting out 3-4 90-minute episodes a week. I know I'm busy with work, but I wouldn't be able to keep up even if I were retired! Anne: Hello Trot! Hello Everyone! I can finally contribute! This is the wettest summer I've ever lived through in South Texas. Luckily, there has not been anything beyond flash flooding yet... (I should knock on wood. Hurricane season technically just started.) I agree with the pace of the dramas... I would have to give up all other activities and forgo sleep to even catch up. Even so, I'm still waiting in anticipation. Welcome, Anne. So glad you are taking this on. I may pop up again every now and then. I just can't do the whole thing. I'm here now after getting up at 2 am to do final run-through of a 60-page grant proposal tha...

Trotwood: I'm not going to be leading RAWR anymore after July, but the blog will still be here and Kakashi is working with some readers to turn the space over, so there is still somewhere for people to drop in and talk about dramas. I know some people were worried it was all going to disappear, but it doesn't look like it. Hurray!!! " Interesting, but I know I am never going to watch": Mysterious Love is exactly the kind of drama I should be gobbling up. Sixteen 30 minute-episodes with romance and mystery, but I just didn't have time. I watched the first episode, and it seemed clunky but also looks like the kind of show that might get better once they are done with setting up the complicated plot. I had every intention of watching the first episode of Monthly Magazine Home because I really like Ji Suk and Jung So Min. It also has other actors that I like, but somehow it started and I didn't even know, and I'm not is space to "catch up" on a sho...

Trotwood: Long week and long weekend. I'm writing this at 3 am my time after returning from a full very very hot day in NYC with my younger daughter. I'm awake because I took a really long shower to get off all the sweat and deal with the blisters I have. We ended up walking 11 miles! Eager to hear about what everyone is watching, especially if you are watching either of the shows in my " Interesting, but I know I am never going to watch" category below: Falling Into Your Love is an e-sports drama. I love getting more sports dramas. This one has a love story as the main part of it I gather. Anyone watching? Here is another Korean drama based on a webtoon. I'm hearing mixed commentary about this, particularly about the male lead's acting, but then I heard some people thinking the actors are doing wonderfully, so . . .  Last week, I mentioned that I was starting two new features as we count down to the end of RAWR.

Trotwood: I've got good news and bad news, and if you are anything like me, you'll want to hear the bad news first. Bad news : I've already told Kakashi that I can't do RAWR anymore after July. I have been put in charge of an additional department, and starting in July, I will be overseeing twenty different departments/offices. As you all have seen, my drama watching has already taken a hit before, it's going to trickle down to a smaller amount with the new semester. Good news : I'm still going to do RAWR through the end of July, meaning the July 27 posting with be the last one. This means that we can all have a long good bye, and because of that, I'm going to include a couple of new features as we do the countdown. 1) Personal blog favorites: Here I am going to post links to some of my favorite blog posts each week. I hope people will start thinking about this themselves and share on the last day. This week I would like to alert people to the squeecaps for ...

Trotwood: Watching less but reading a LOT more webtoons and novels and watching Youtube videos on cooking and places I want to travel when the world truly begins to recover. Just got a notice that Switzerland will be voting on June 23 about whether it will open up to US and Canadians who are full vaccinated, and because I clicked on that information so fast, I also got invited to put my name in for a free trip!! I never win anything, but it did make me smile during my lunch break. kakashi: I'll stay here/in the mountains for a while until everyone who has travel urges has traveled :D The world will be a crowded place, don't you think? It's actually just the government who is going to decide on June 23 so the chances are high. You're more than welcome here, Trot!   This, of course means that I have completely given up on trying to catch up on anything. Also, there seems to be a gazillion Korean drama premiering this week, but I don't feel badly at all because I'm...

Cubic (A SnarkCap) - Episode 15

Shuk: Has Ruthainark finally realized her feelings? Has she realized his? Will these SnarkCaps ever finish? Stay tuned! Trotwood: At this point, I didn't think she'd realize her feelings even after they were married with 6 kids! But hope does spring eternal. Kmuse : Nark might be one of the dimmest leading ladies I have watched in my long drama watching career. Yet, somehow I still find myself rooting for her happy ever after. (nodding in agreement)

Trotwood: I'm drowning in being behind in dramas. I've just given up on some, even those I really like. I'm still two weeks behind Miss Monte Cristo, and there are so many more dramas coming our way. I thought I'd have more time once my semester was over, but then I signed up for two Korean classes and there are all those projects to prepare for a fall that still has moving health targets, and I already feel like summer is over. I love sports dramas, but it looks like I'm not going to even start Racket Boys. I love Zhu Li Long even more than sports dramas, but there is no way I'm going to have the energy for his 40-episode angst-filled The Rebel though it looks lovely. KOREA Sell Your Haunted House Viki is subbing this drama really slowly, so no. I have NOT seen the last episode because Viki hasn't subbed it yet, so please, NO SPOILERS. The egg ghost is back, and I'm not going to lie, it's always freaked me out. I was impatient only because they had ...
