Crisis: Special Investigation Squad Episode 6 (Recap)

Trotwood:This is the episode where I try to think what/who would be my lighthouse light.
Panda: I keep wracking my brains as to where I have seen Satomi before and I. Don't. Want. To . Google. Urgh
Episode 6

We open the episode with a continuation of where we left off: Yoshinaga telling team that they have a new case. He nods at Oyama to bring up something on the screen. It’s security camera footage of a convenience store robbery.
Is their new case involving armed robbers? That seems too pedestrian doesn't it?
However, the robbery isn’t the point but the person in the background. When Oyama captures his face and enlarges it, Tamaru stares in surprise. He recognizes the person.
Ooh, that is more like it :)
Yup, Tamaru. It's Satomi Shuichi, a terrorist that was one of three people held responsible for a bombing in the subway eleven years ago. The other two were found and are serving life sentences. He got away. Their group, a religious order called Shinjitsu no Hikari, was given a dissolution order, and their leaders were arrested. Kashii wonders if the picture is really him since rumor had it he was dead. Oyama does a computer facial comparison between the last picture they have of Satomi and the guy in the video, and it matches.
Wait did he age in reverse? He looks younger in the CCTV than he did in the past. LOL. Okay, I am liking this storyline. So he is a domestic terrorist who evaded capture 11 years prior. What would make a man commit such a heinous crime? I can never understand a Terrorist's psyche but I would like to at least scratch the surface because I truly can't fathom how these people think or justify their actions. Or maybe they do NOT think...
Kashii wonders whether Satomi is planning another attack, and Yoshinaga says the government is concerned about that, too, and is doing a secret investigation which is where they come in. The whole discussion seems to have affected Tamaru; he clearly has some other connection to this. Inami notices.
Busy gazing at Inami's lips in this screenshot 😛😛😃😃
However, this is quickly forgotten when Yoshinaga gives out the assignments. He says that Inami and Tamaru are on standby while he, Oyama, and Kashii comb through all the security footage for the area. Inami makes a face:
I love this man.
Which makes Yoshinaga laugh.(I laughed, too) He tells him that he and Tamaru need to rest up because once they start following Satomi, they aren’t going to be able to give up. They all smile at Inami’s desire to take action. Everyone that is except Tamaru. Instead, when the others turn to their computers, he tells Inami to come with him.
Tamaru is all action, as I said in the last episode? I keep feeling the age/experience gap between this two in totally unexpected moments. I think I can safely predict that Tamaru definitely knows more/ or was more involved with the bombing that happened in the past.
I would’ve had this look, too, Inami, if Tamaru asked me to go with him on a clandestine meeting.
That's cos you know what you are going to get at the meeting Trot *wink* *wink*

Tamaru takes Inami to a subway station, presumably the one where the attack started, but I’m not sure. He talks about Satomi getting on train, leaving a briefcase with a bomb, and getting off right before the door closed. This gets reenacted like they are watching it happen. Satomi waits until the train in between stations before pushing the trigger on his cell phone to set off bomb then resolutely he walks away.
Horrible. Just horrible human beings.
Tamaru tells Inami that he was still with Public Security at the time, and everything seemed to be in chaos because a known religious organization that they had been watching because of such a threat seemed to have slipped right through their hands. Inami asks if there was something wrong with the security. Tamaru pauses a beat too long and says that nothing was found and ruled that it was too spontaneous to predict.
Hmmmm, Tamaru somehow I do not think you are being sincere. And Inami is just killing me with his facial expressions this episode hehehehehe.
I agree, Inami. Tamaru's answer is not satisfactory here.
Somehow he doesn’t seem sure. Instead he talks about the effect of terrorism and how it just makes everyone feel uneasy all the time because everyone feels that any attack could happen anywhere or any time.

We switch to a smartly dressed man with a briefcase walking in a subway station. He tenses only slightly as he walks by two subway police officers but keeps walking.
I suspect him. I don't know what of, but I do all the same.
We switch immediately to Kaji’s office where Anouma is looking especially pained. He asks Kaji if they shouldn’t let “them” look too deeply into the Satomi case. (I don’t like this, Panda! Neither do I!) Kaji tells him that he’s worrying too much. Kaji thinks the police think of Satomi as a pebble in their shoe. Anouma thinks that the whole things might be more than a pebble, but Kaji wonders if it might be a diamond instead and is determined to be the one who reaches in and takes it out. Hmm. You’re not actually doing the reaching, Kaji, sitting behind that desk and all.
See, this is where I want to bash Kaji's head in. He likes feeling like a Master puppeteer and it vexes me to the core! Like what in the hell is all the parable about stone and diamond. Urgh. But what this conversation tells me is there is more to Terrorist Satomi than is said. Maybe he is a rogue agent?
I labeled this picture "Anouma thinking again about early retirement" Hehehehe
The conversation is interrupted by a phone call from an Inui. The next scene has Kaji meeting with someone who I’m assuming is Inui, but I’m not sure because it is the first time the show has not identified a character and his position in drama. We know this person is important because Kaji stands formally the entire time.
And also cos Inui is clearly an ass to Kaji.
The man asks him what he was doing during the accident 11 years ago (executive secretary to a Prime Minister) and thanks Kaji for pushing through bills. Inui asks him if the guys he is raising are looking for Satomi, and when Kaji answers in the affirmative, he tells them it would be great if they caught Satomi first and that he will support them if they do. This pleases Kaji, but he sobers when the man also tells him that if he (Kaji) wants to be in his (this boss's) seat in 3-4 years, he needs to be careful. It almost sounds like a threat; it's at least a warning.
"Guys he is raising"?! Wow, they are talking about our guys like they are chickens! ://
He was also subtly threatening Kaji about getting Satomi early, Inui wants the case closed asap.
We go back to that smartly dressed man from earlier. He is now walking into a small office building with Yoshikawa Health Food sign. In his office, other men are working focusedly on computers, but as soon as he walks in and puts down in briefcase, they all stand up and head towards a door in the back.
That shocked me.
In that space, no surprise, is Satomi sitting on a sofa. The spokesman for the group tells him that his guess was correct, and all the subway stations are on heightened alert. They wonder what they should do. He tells them that this was to be expected. They realize that this could distract the police from their real plans. He apologizes though that he is going to have to stay with them longer, but they are all so eager, telling him that they are honored to be helping him. They all bow and depart.
Creepy, creepy. Question- why are assassins/ bad guys in Jdoramaland so cleanly dressed?
Back at headquarters, Yoshinaga, Kashii, and Oyama are still at work looking through footage, when she finds a sighting. Satomi has been found in Yoga which has no connection to the initial sighting, and they wonder how Oyama found him. She says since this was an emergency, she contacted her old comrades and asked for as much surveillance camera footage as they could get their hands on and ran those through her program. Yoshinaga is thankful but warns her not to use her comrades too much. She agrees.
I agree too. My suspicious nature feels whatever info they provide could serve as a double-edged sword as they could have installed trapdoors that gives them an illegal way into HQ stuff. Or maybe that's just me and my theories from watching too many spy movies.
But even though everyone agrees with Tamaru that Satomi’s probably hiding out in Yoga, they wonder how to find him. They don’t have time to go through every building in the town to look for him. Oyama thinks that they may be able to flush him out.
How?
She asserts that people in hiding tend to look for news of themselves on the internet. There is actually an online bulletin board about Satomi because of the mystery surround the case and his disappearance.
She says she can make a fake post about sighting in Yoga to watch the chatter. Kashii nods saying that would make Satomi come out of hiding, which will give them a chance to catch him on video again. Oyama can then see who responds to her post and look up the IP address to see if any are posted from within Yoga because these would more likely be from him to distract people. I agree with Tamaru. That’s a great idea.
I nod in agreement with you Trot, very good idea.
The plan works like a charm. Almost as soon as Oyama makes the post, one of the men in the office (I call them Suits of Terror loooool) sees the posting and calls over his boss.
As soon as the boss sees it, he runs into Satomi’s room, and they decide to pull out. However, just as Oyama predicted, several of the Suits are amongst the respondents to the posting, and she is able to pinpoint where they are based on the fact that their IP addresses are the same: Yoshikawa Health Food.
Inami and Tamaru are already in the van in Yoga, so Yoshinaga tells them to head out and Oyama will send them the address. He tells the others to ready to leave.
Will it be this easy to capture Satomi?
The Suits of Terror shepherd Satomi into a van and pull out as soon as Inami and Tamaru are pulling into street, so they follow them. They drive for a while, and Inami believes that their van has become obvious while Tamaru knows that the others will never catch up in time.
The terror van pulls into a parking lot, and they all go inside. Tamaru doubts that they are shopping, so Inami suggests they take their chance. Tamaru gives him a big smile, (really he actually likes taking people out even though while he's fighting, he's all business), and they follow the Suits of Terror into store.
When I saw him smile, I screamed Trot in my house! True story. LOL. That smile lights up the pitch darkness *Swoons*
They find themselves in what looks like the Japanese version of a Home Depot. The Suits of Terror surround Satomi as they walk. Inami and Tamaru follow and once they turn a corner, they are confronted by Suits sans Satomi. Of course we get a fight. I love how the suits take off their glasses. I’m also going to admit that it was this scene that made me look up the fighting style and to look up collapsible batons. I now carry one in my car.
I still can't believe they were doing all the hype just to pull out batons. Cool looking batons, I know but still just batons. Where are the beloved AK-47s? Oh, only the US of A worships guns, sorry my bad. Briefly forgot where we where, that Back to school PSA about school shootings got me in the solar plexus. Let me go back to my 2 beloved men and their superior ass-kickery cos obviously glasses or no, these 5 suited guys are no match for my 2 boys.
They win the fight but not the war. Satomi gets away. We see him walking down a small residential looking back street changing his hat and his glasses and reversing his jacket. We see Inami and Tamaru outside of their van in the dark, Tamaru telling Inami to stop looking. Inami is flustered. He can’t believe that Satomi was able to get away without a trace so easily. He's just too good. He also thinks his disappearance for 11 years is shady, too. Who can do that. He asks Tamaru if he knows something else and wonders who Satomi is really.
Tamaru tells them that at the time of the subway bombing, there was a rumor that one of the police who was undercover in the cult had lead the attacks. He says the rumor was all about how the police officer had been completely converted and rose through the ranks. Cult leaders can be very persuasive he says, but Inami wonders whether it was more like what Tamaru had said before that the person just lost sight of what he had on the other side to come back to.
I had a feeling! I just knew Satomi had to have a slightly deeper backstory than ordinary terrorist. Reading Tamaru's cues and body language, I thought to myself earlier that it was possible he was an ex-cop who turned bad. Knowing he had been undercover in the cult makes it worse. Feels like it took something pretty awful to make him turn? Hmm, we will see.
Inami also wonders why no one was able to check. Tamaru informs him that when police officers are undercover for awhile, their personal records get expunged for their safety, and that everyone in the know has to pretend that they don’t know anything about the disappearance of their colleague. The records only get put back correctly when the mission is over. He checked the record, and he said that it looked the same as his did when he was undercover years ago.
The effect of being undercover must make this all hit too close to home!
Thus, he says to Inami, they need to be only searching for a terrorist. However, Inamai asks him to look at it another way. He says that if he had been killed while he was undercover, he would have been buried as a Yakuza then since that’s what he was doing undercover. He asks Tamaru if Tamaru wouldn’t have looked for him or if he would have kept his mouth shut as ordered. He also suggests that the way to find Satomi is to see if they can find the real record.
Yes baby! And by Baby, Trot I know you know I'm not infringing on Tamaru, I strictly mean Inami.

This gets to Tamaru, probably because he knows someone undercover right now in addition to what happened to Inami. He tells them, they will start looking when they get back.

In the meantime, we see Satomi walking into a foggy graveyard to visit the grave of the Nabeshima Family. Could a member of this family be the lighthouse he has lost, Panda?
I don't want to feel sorry for him :(
Back at headquarters, Oyama starts looking for such a record. She does some really interesting deductive reasoning, going back to people who would have been in police academy at the time someone of Satomi’s age would have been at the police academy and then eliminating people  in different categories that would be different from Satomi like those who are still active or who have different build. She keeps doing this until she has one name, Nabeshima Yakuta. Unfortunately, he looks nothing like Satomi, and they don’t have our knowledge about the Satomi grave site visit. But this complete erasure of Satomi proves to them that he is one of them.
Yup
The police have searched Yoshikawa Health Foods, and other than finding out that the owner is a Shinjitsu no Hikari sympathizer, they have found little else—no trace of explosives or any records. They wonder if this is a terrorist plot at all. Oyama also thinks it odd that they are active now.
Yes, the next day matches the date but usually there are more symbolic anniversaries—5 year, 10 years, etc.—not 11 years. Yoshinaga wishes that there was some family connected to Yakuta, but he has no living relatives to ask. Tamaru suggests they look at apartments in the area because if he were Satomi, he’d be staying in the area to get ready for the attack.
He is correct because Satomi is next seen walking through a neighborhood and going into an apartment that must already been established for this reason. However, before he goes into the apartment, he sets up his dual phones to be a security camera for him. (I thought this was pretty cool, I have to admit)
Satomi is a worthy adversary!
Which is why he wakes up upon hearing Tamaru and Inami walking by the postboxes and manages his escape.
Maybe third time will be the charm :)
The two have the correct apartment, but he escapes and locks them in forcing Inami into another risky stunt.
Inami looks pissed, but guess who isn’t? Kaji. He hears about this failure and is highly amused.
He annoys me
Long-suffering Anouma is not. He tells his boss that though the team has failed twice, they have figured out who Satomi really is. Shouldn’t they pull them off this case now? Kaji scoffs. He believes that the team needs Satomi as a rite of passage (WHAT?!?! he freaking annoys me soooo much! I want to smack his smug face). He does seem a bit regretful though that if there is another attack, the team could be blamed. So he sighs and says that if they haven’t made progress by the morning, he will give Anouma a hint to give them. Of course this makes Anouma freak out a bit. Seriously, he needs to be taking anxiety medication on a constant IV drip! I doubt he is being paid even a third of what he deserves cos it seems like he is about to go into cardiac arrest every episode 😃😃
But Kaji denies knowing anything for sure, he says he just used his imagination to think about what Satomi wants the most. He tells him that people should use their heads more. It’s clear that this gives Anouma an idea of the next target. Still, Kaji warns his minion that if the team figures it out on their own that he is not to give them any help. hmm.
😐😐😐😐😐😐😐
The team back at headquarters is tense. Inami is even pacing back and forth. Yoshinaga tells them that the subways have tightened security so much that he thinks it would be very difficult to stage an attack, but that isn’t making anyone feel better. They are pretty sure that Satomi knows this as well. Kashii wonders if the subway isn’t the target. Inami recalls that in his SDF training they talked about how terrorists generally have two kinds of targets: symbolic and  . . .
They have only been focusing on symbolic rather than personal; Tamaru immediately asks Oyama to look into any person at section chief level or higher in Public Security at the time of the attacks, especially anyone who has had a major change in their professional and personal lives in the last three months. He concludes that such a person could be the target of revenge because undercover, you only have contact with a few superiors.
Oyama does the work and narrows it down to a man who had been the Section Chief of the Administration Bureau 11 years ago but has been promoted to Superintendent General. And guess who it is, our snide friend, Inui from earlier in episode. No wonder the show didn’t identify him. And now, Panda, I’m wondering how much of Kaji’s attitude earlier is the fact that he’s the target.
I swear I didn't think of this angle till now! So you think Kaji was so nonchalant cos he doesn't give a toss about if Inui survives or not? Sounds very plausible.
The groups decides to head out immediately because if he’s the new target, then the best time to attack would be when he leaves his house to go to work and when he gets out of car at work. These are the most vulnerable security times. On the way, Yoshinaga calls Inouma to tell him that the target has changed. Inouma doesn’t seem surprised at all.
However, even though he tells Yoshinaga that he'll set up extra security for Inui, he doesn't call anyone. Instead, we just shift back to our group in the van looking at map. Yoshinaga is worried that they won’t make it on time, and his concern in justified because Satomi is already there sitting in car outside apartment complex.
So with there being no extra security added, were they really trying to get rid of Inui??
A fancy black car drives up to the entrance, catching Satomi’s attention. A finely dressed man gets out of the vehicle and scans the area. Very good looking with the feel of an SP. He doesn’t see anything, but a viewer would be worried because Satomi’s car in now empty. He checks his watch, giving me all sorts of BG: Personal Bodyguard feels.
BG! And the Boss!
Inui comes out through the doors, and almost immediately after the SP guy bows, he gets shot  in back. He immediately goes into protection mode, and w he jumps in front of Inui and takes a bullet to the chest. Inui is shocked but even more shocked because he recognizes Satomi.
I wish we knew more of what happened between these 2.
They stare at each other as Satomi remarks that it’s been a long time. He pulls trigger but several things happen at same time: Inami grabs Inui, and Tamaru knocks Satomi over.
Why do bad guys always overtalk and end up not killing their main targets? I will admit I think I wanted Inui at least wounded or soemthing. He was very slimy.
Short tussle, but really, it’s Tamaru. Satomi is not going to win this one. Inami stuffs Inui into the waiting vehicle and bangs on the door for them to take off. The other team members arrive, Yoshinaga first who checks on SP. Fortunately, he had his bulletproof vest on, so the bullet is stuff in the vest rather than in his heart.

The team surrounds the now captured Satomi. He looks at them as they do so wondering if they are really SP because he thinks they are odd if they are. Inami asks what everyone wants to know: why? Why did he carry out the bombings (although I would’ve asked why he targeted Inui, but that’s just me).
The funniest thing about this scene was the fact that the SP stayed sprawled on the ground all through. Even though it had been established he wore a vest and was not actually harmed. That made me laugh throughout this scene. And yes, why Inui? Why target him? I am so curious.
Satomi tells them that he contacted his superior about the bombings days before the attack. He was then put into solitary confinement for the three days before to keep him focuses and to not chicken out. He hoped that he’d be rescued. Nothing happened. It seemed that his report had been ignored.
Still doesn't justify what he did...

The alternative to carrying out the bombings was to be lynched and tortured. He wonders if the higher ups actually wanted the bombing to happen to get more power over the cults or maybe there were people on train who they wanted to be rid of.  Inami tells him that there is no record of anything that could help prove what he says is true. Inami tells him that since he was a policeman, he should’ve taken the torture, but Satomi scoffs, telling them that is easy to say when you haven't been in his shoes. He warns the team that they don’t understand now, but they will soon.
Hate this foreshadowing

The next shot is of Satomi in a jail cell hanging from the bars, presumably suicide. And the next is of Inami, sitting in the dark on his matress in his bare apartment (does he have any furniture?) with his knees pull into his chest staring into space. It has been a bad week for him. His phone rings, and the caller ID says Matsunaga Hana (Angel). Oh, Panda.
It's me. I am the Angel calling to console my baby

We just hear him say that he’s at home now because something bad happened at work. He then says, presumably in response to a question she asks, that he’s okay now because he’s just seen a light. Aww.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Comments
Dammit Satomi where have I see you before??? And who keeps informing Kaji and his lackey about the team activities? Cos it doesn't seem like progress reports you know? It seems like there is a mole in there and that would hurt as I like this team very very much.
