Rants and Weekly Raves #287 (RAWR)
Trotwood: Preparing to have all our courses go online, moving students out, establishing emergency housing, and doing a gazillion Zoom/Micosoft Team meetings was beginning to take it's toll last week, but all our study abroad students are back home (finally--it took our student in Northern Ireland the longest). This week will be settling into the new normal whatever that is. I picked up some new shows, but I don't know how long I will keep with some of them. Not that they aren't good, but my mind seems to want to reject anything too dark or taxing.
kakashi: I am settled into the new abnormal and coping quite well ... at the moment. Even getting some work done. Drama watching... not so much but that's normal for me too.

I'll Find You on a Beautiful Day/I'll Go to You When the Weather is Fine
What was that response to her confession? I love Haewon and
I like how she is so direct without being aggressive. I even liked her more when
she said she just wanted to know and be done. The whole yelling about the dog’s
name was so hilarious. I’m worried about Eun-Seob. What is that traumatic
experience from his past that almost caused him to give up something (someone)
who he’s clearly wanted for years? Also, what is with his mom favoring him so
much over Hwi. She is wonderful and a great friend to Haewon here. It’s a
testament to her character that she doesn’t hate her brother or her mom. She may be my favorite person in this show.
365:Repeat the Year
I
was looking forward to this show because I really enjoyed the Japanese show (Repeat) that was made based on the same source material.I talked about it last
year in RAWR. This version has already made changes to the main characters, so
other than basic premise that a random group of people get to go back in time
one year, there are really no similarities . . . well besides the fact that they keep dying off. Nam Ji Hyun plays the FL, who in the current
time frame is wheelchair bound very successful (take a look at her
apartment—drool) Webtoon artist and the Lee Joon Hyuk plays the ML who is a cop. I love his relationship with his best friend/hyung and the whole team. The
opening episodes were really good, so I’m keeping this one.
The World of the Married/ A Couple's World
I had no intention of watching this show—even though I’m
completely smitten with Kim He Ae's acting. I just wasn't interested in watching her be cheated on by her husband and being miserable because I knew I would like her and that she'd play some fantastic woman married to a schmuck; I know too many of those in real life. But someone on twitter posted stills of the
end of the first episode and was in such shock that I was curious. I literally
went to watch the last five minutes and even with that I was riveted, so I
ended up watching both episodes completely.
I don’t know if I will keep watching; not really in mood for heavy
emotion. But if Kim He Ae gets to kick some ass on her way to revenge, I’ll be in.
CHINA/TAIWAN
Skate Into Love
I saved this show to watch as a treat, but by end of week didn't have time. There are 18 or 19 episodes subbed now. Wow. One seems to get subbed every day, so if you haven't started.
My Roommate is a Detective
This is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. I need a Agatha
Christie-like mystery show. Nothing too taxing emotionally but with great
detective puzzles of the week. I really really want to like it, and I do until
the FL shows up. Every. Time. She appears I want to slap her. I know I’m
supposed to find her spunky and adorable, but I just find her supremely spoiled,
self-absorbed, and callous to anyone’s feelings or situations but her own. I’m
even more annoyed by her than our co-male lead (Hu Yi Tian as the geeenius) who just wants her to go away. I
don’t blame him. I’d have stabbed her hand with my fork picking food off my
plate. I’m also annoyed that the other co-male lead (Leon Zhang, who plays newly appointed chief inspector) seems to be trying to set
them up and just puts up with her behavior because she’s a good girl at heart.
Really? One of them will probably end up falling for her and then I’d be really
sick. I don’t think it’s actress (Shane Yan) but the role itself.
JAPAN
Kono Otoko wa jinsei Saidai no Ayamachidesu/ This Guy is the Biggest Mistake of My Life
So of course, he’s fine and we get a Boys Over Flowers Trick
You into confessing because she thinks you are dead scene. However, it does not
play out like Amagi wants. Amagi thinks he has Sato where he wants because of this
and because she rejects our good doctor. However, even though she knows there
is something about him that draws her to him, she recognizes that she still
finds his obsessiveness creepy and resigns. I was hoping this was where he’d
finally get it and start acting normal, so she could get over her feeling of
creepiness, but . . .
Shiranakute Kariyama/No Need to Know/Off the Record
Didn't have the energy for the fall out from last week's episodes, but the whole show has been subbed now, so I may marathon it in the coming weeks just to find out how it ends.
THAILAND
Why R U?
SO I
was (only sorta) complaining about yet another pure fluff episode with only a
brief montage of SaiZon and then the rest of what seems like an almost eternal
weekend in paradise with Fightor and Tutor who basically go on dates and sleep
together (in their ginormous bed, in the sauna, on the deck). No plot
advancement other than conformation that they are really a couple. Turns out
that they started airing earlier than planned and don’t have enough footage of
the university scenes before they sent everyone home because of COVID-19.
2Gether: the Series
So after the drunken kiss confession, Tine is starting to
wonder (finally!), but not only that, he’s starting to wonder about his own
feelings. He still feels like he wants to pursue Pearl, but the rest of us is
wondering if that is just out of habit. And the discussion about jealousy
really makes him question and then finally acknowledge that he’s jealous of
Sarawat being around others. The question is whether or not he can acknowledge
that his feelings have changed. We
also get to see that Sarawat has liked Tine for a year, bumping into him by accident
at a concert, which Tine doesn’t remember at all. Let’s all admit that Sarawat taking and posting that
picture was a douche move. Just because you’re attractive and lovelorn doesn’t
make it okay.
My Engineer
Hurray!! We finally have Ram meeting hit counterpart, and I think I’m going to like this couple even more than the lead couple although they are cute. I mean Duen is just a rosy bunny, and it’s easy to see why Bohn can’t resist even when he’s trying to be tough. This how is pretty much rainbow and unicorn land so far, but I’m sure there will be angst soon enough. I hope we get introduced to the 4th couple before that happens though. I'm really trying to watch the show legally, but there are so many more episodes because the VIP people are leaking them. Seriously, this week I need more rainbows and unicorns, so I'm not sure how long I will be able to hold out. Caitlyn, is it too late to sign up for VIP access?
