Marry My Husband Episode 4 (A SqueeCap)

SHUK: Ji-Won has turned a page to A New and ‘Nother You. But can she still juggle the job, the skank, the manhoe, and the Fates, and come out a winner in the end? Stay tuned!

Trotwood: I believe that she can because not only is she able to recognize the real allies she could have had before, she is now her own best friend and this best friend is bringing the receipts for every debt owed her.

EPISODE 4

We are back on the bridge near Cheonggyecheon Time Tour Market as strangers cheer them on. I feel secondhand embarrassment for Ji-won. Cute Chef is shocked he did it, I think. (me, too. He has been hanging onto this confession for years! I'd be shocked at myself, too). From a distance, Boss pulls out his phone and makes a call. Ji-won quickly answers her phone before Cute Chef can say anything else. Yep! It’s Boss, asking her to come in for some last-minute work at the office. Ji-won hesitates a moment, then agrees.

She apologizes for having to head out, but Chef is wide eyed and happy, especially when he gets her phone number. As she hails a taxi and leaves, Eun-ho sees Ji-hyuk glaring at him from across the stream.

Boss manages to beat her to the office and is waiting at the entrance. Ji-won muses that Boss Yu has never contacted her on a Sunday. He’s ready with his excuse. There is a push to put more marketing online, and the current command staff are too conservative to look at this strategy to increase market share. Therefore, she and Boss have to quickly put together something that will help change their minds. He takes her to a showroom filled with dazzling displays of KPop videos and adventure sizzle reels on various sized monitors. The showcase is sponsored by a company she knows will be international in ten years. Buy stock, Ji-won! 빨리 빨리! Ppalli ppalli!
I have to say I was a bit confused by this scene. I was like this was the excuse you came up with? And how is she supposed to be helping you with this? I was more concerned as a worker with a boss who isn't clear about outcomes. I'd be nervous because I wasn't sure what he wants her to do in that space.

Boss introduces her to an older man, Wang Hueng-in. Ji-won recognizes him from the future as one of those lousy power-tripping azzhats that like to yell and assault employees. He likes pretty girls and offers a handshake, but Boss intercepts before they touch.
Boss must know this about him, too. I bet his hands are always damp. Eww.

At the ruinion, Snakey is cooking to try and repair things, but the pork belly is tattered and unappetizing, much like her reputation. She is still playing the white lotus, but everyone now sees her as a Liar Extraordinaire. All the Mean Girls are focused on her; Bully sees cracks in every word from the cheap knockoff earrings to the ‘stolen’ boyfriend. Snakey wonders how Cute Chef knew about the reunion; if he hadn’t showed up, she might have recovered from Ji-won’s words. She plays off her high school machinations as girlish hijinks not worth mentioning at their current age.
You almost have to admire how she stays on script. Almost.

Bully isn’t buying it and wonders if Snakey had deliberately isolated Ji-won even back in high school.(Yes) Snakey finally snaps and yells at the Mean Girls that she never explicitly told them to bully Ji-won. She runs to the bathroom to stare at herself and manages to be convinced she’s the victim in all this. But she's looking ragged as she attempts to call Ji-won. When she finally leaves the restroom, the entire room is empty and the wait staff is cleaning up the post-party debris.

Back at the showcase, Old Guy is browbeating the help. Literally. When he accessed the new site, it ended up showing all sorts of 19+ content. Ji-won explains how algorithms control content based on personal input and even she had ended up with some racy content, but Old Guy interrupts that her job is to look pretty and keep her mouth shut. Boss steps in to demand respect for his coworker. Old Guy backs down but then takes it out on his own team. (I’m guessing Ji-hyuk does nothing about this piece of garbage because he’s grandfather’s choice. Otherwise, I would question his decision to allow management staff to physically assault U&K employees)

At the end of the showcase, Ji-won thanks Boss for his kind words. More smiles!  More pink hearts! These two are so cute together.
See? This was cute and all, but what was the point? It would have been helpful to have a couple lines about what he wants her to do with this information or a hint about why we should care about this man. We know he's terrible. Isn't it here that Ji-won remembers that he has a scandal about his behavior in the future she remembers?

Weasel’s camping trip is a failure; apparently, he and his homey planned to pick up chicks and have a little fun. Turns out his homey is married, so I guess scum aggregates. Ten second PPL later, Homey thinks that Weasel’s girlfriend may be seeing another man. He gets mad and steals all the PPL product before demanding Homey stop the car.

The thing is that I'm not sure why Homey is friends with Weasel because I'm not seeing him being the person that is as lecherous as his friend. I get the feeling that he comes out with Weasel to just get out and he's the only person who actually puts up with listening to Weasel complain.

There is a comfortable silence in the LandRover. Ji-won stares at Ji-hyuk’s profile. She starts to talk about the reunion where bullies are still bullies and bad people don’t feel bad. She has decided to be nicer to nice people. Boss smiles and instructs her to recognize and cling to the good people in her life. There’s a heated stare from him that she entirely misses. Boo. Hiss.
She is focusing on her plan. I also thinks she means to include him in this group of people just not the way the viewer wants. She is not interested in romance yet; she is just relishing in starting to have real friends.

To me, this show and the betrayal, is more about her friendship with Snakey not her marriage to Weasel. What seems to hurt her the most in the past is not the fact that he cheated on her but that he cheated on her with Snakey. Like I think she could have recovered from his betrayal not hers. Snakey and her were friends longer than she was lovers with Weasel.

Boss lightens the mood by asking, what did she think of the R-19+ content that she had watched. Should he watch it too? She giggles and explains she was just blowing smoke on Old Guy Wang. They both share a good, wholesome laugh.

… Which gets spoiled yet again by Snakey’s phone call. Ji-won dumps it to voicemail without answering, but then Cute Chef sends her a text. Her smile makes Boss frown and comment that meeting old friends it nice, but good feelings are often fleeting bits of memory. Ji-won interrupts him that she won’t rekindle old flames, especially since she already has a boyfriend. The vehicle lapses back into silence but it’s no longer comfortable or cute.
Because she is focused on her plan, people!

As they get closer to Ji-won’s place, she sees Weasel strolling down the road. Much to Boss’ silent snickering, she lays back in the set as far as it can go. As they pass Weasel, Boss wonders aloud why she’s hiding. Ji-won pops back up – she isn’t hiding at all!
This whole scene was hilarious. But also warm. I love how he looks at her while she is doing this. He's not laughing at her; it's like he is proud that she is making an effort to separate herself from the crazy and finds her adorable in the process.

Except they turn the corner and Snakey is sitting on the front stoop. Ji-won ducks back down, closes her eyes, and throws her jacket over her head for good measure. Boss is even more amused.

😂😂😂

A little later, Weasel meets up with Snakey on the stoop. She starts sobbing, and he decides to take her to Ji-won’s apartment. They are trapped outside, though, because the door code has been changed. YES!!! Good, because that keeps them from mattress-backing on her sheets. Even so, Weasel takes one look at Snakey’s cleavage and decides it’s a good time to go and get drunk.

Our adorable couple ends up by the Han River – noooo!
I have faith that they are going to do their best at getting us over our Han River trauma.

Maybe these guys would help?

Except they are sharing coffee and personal secrets. Yay, I’m always afraid of that Han River Breakup Syndrome. (See? Told ya) Ji-won admits that she rarely steps outside the comfort zone, but she plans to change all that and find her real self. Boss smiles and says he looks forward to her transformation.

She mentions the meal kit idea, and Boss offers to review it. Ji-won balks at first then agrees. Eventually her dream job is in interior design. She also wants to learn self-defense.

Surprise! Boss eagerly offers to teach her. She thinks it’s funny, but he proudly states that he’s studied them all: judo, hapkido, MMA, taekwondo, Muay Thai fighting, and kickboxing. Ji-won doesn’t really believe him.
I know he looks dorky, but he's practically a giant, so I would have believed him. Any coach would have recruited him based on his size alone even if he had no talent.

Oh yay! In his frustration he removes his glasses and pushes his hair away from his face. She immediately mentions how pretty he looks without those ugly things.

At a restaurant (and I want to comment that he takes his girlfriend to a p’macha in the streets but takes this little tart to an actual food place, hmph!), Snakey and Weasel talk. She whines that Ji-won has changed and that they don’t feel so chummy anymore. Weasel’s internal monologue is nothing more that wondering and then dismissing anything between Ji-won and Ji-hyuk.
Because it's always about him even when he's distracted by cleavage.

Out loud, he thinks that Ji-won is just focused on work and that’s why she appears distant. Snakey switches to smiley flirtation mode and prettily thanks him for his words. They end up dancing their chopstick around the same rice cake. Ugh.
The thing is that they are so obvious that I find them boring. There isn't even any sexual tension just horndog on one side and manipulative victimhood on the other.

Finally, Ji-won and Ji-hyuk make it back to her place. He offers to escort up to her apartment. She shyly smiles but says no. He tries a different tack; she should look at more than one possible marriage partner. She thinks he may be more of a player than she thought, but he backpedals to say marriage is important and someday he wants to get hitched. He trails off into a deprecating laugh. Ji-won’s eyes get all sparkly. and she cutely says that Boss is cute when he laughs. Because it's the truth. He's just never had a reason to smile or laugh at work! They smile at each other.

Ji-won is now in loungewear. Wait, no kisseu? No inviting him up to see your etchings? Boo. Anyway, she looks over a few scrapbook pages from Sunny, who created a fun sketch of an apartment layout. Ji-won thinks it’s a good time to move and design her own space.
Yes, move and do not leave a forwarding address!

A buzzing from her bed is Snakey attempting contact again. She texts gaslighting comments about how innocent she was in all the unpleasantness at the reunion, and justifies dropping the bomb on Ji-won as an attempt to make sure she came to the party so she could reconnect and enjoy herself.
It's such an obvious lie that I am so upset at how little Ji-won thought of herself that she believed all of this the first time it happened.

Ji-won decides they should meet face to face to discuss things. After sending the text, the other annoying fly buzzes to guilt her. It seems that Weasel and Snakey are tag-teaming her phone. She ignores them both and prays they get together and get married ASAP.
Yes!! This. Really this. Why don't all the horrible people just marry each other, live in their worlds, and leave the rest of us alone?

Her phone is still buzzing and buzzing, but this time it’s Cute Chef! She answers it and they have a nice chat. He apologizes for his mean actions in high school.
He is really adorable. I like him a lot. He's seems such a decent guy, and I feel bad for him that he's inevitably going to get his heart broken.

And we get the flashback that really drives home how slimy Soo-min was back then. After Eun-ho’s demand that Ji-won never speak to him again, Soo-min pretends that she told the boy that Ji-won liked him and this was his reaction. We all know there’s more to the story than that.
Because none of her stories are accurate only fables she tells herself.

In the present, Cute Chef says that he sent her a confession letter and was angry at her written reply to him. Ji-won realizes what happened and asks to meet up so she could read the letter he never threw away.

The next morning, she slow-struts into the office like a rock star, shocking everyone with Ji-won 2.0. Weasel even shoves Snakey aside to drool all over her. Boss sees Weasel is itching to get his hands on Ji-won and is shocked enough to knock over a stack of meal containers.

The two of them talk almost like there’s nobody else in the room, even though the entire office is wide-eyed and big-eared watching them. It’s really awkward but cute. Sunny looks speculative; Weasel looks jealous; Ms Kim ships them.

Up on the rooftop, I don’t know what is going on. It’s a group of mostly male employees treating Weasel like he won a Baeksang Award for Hottest Girlfriend. He just takes it all in stride like he had something to do with it (which technically he did by being a colossal murdering dirtbag I guess). One of the two girls warns him that men will be after her now that she is pretty.
Him pretending that he knew she was hot all along is just so . . .I'm not sure why this really rubbed me wrong as opposed to all the sleazy things he does. Fitting to his character of taking credit for everything when he really does nothing.

Ji-won meets up with Weasel later on in the day. He pretends to care about how she feels, then jumps right into what is bothering him. Did she meet up with Boss after the reunion? She admits that they met for work, and Weasel goes off on a tirade that Every Man Is After The Same Thing and that He Is Ready To Stake His Claim.
So obvious.

He tries a heavy-handed seduction and gets a Coffee Americano right in the nuts for his pains.

He runs for the bathroom, bumping into Snakey along the way. Now for the second confrontation! Snakey plays the white lotus who innocently has no idea why those mean girls from the reunion are mean. Ji-won thinks about the snakiness of Snakey, but she has to maintain at least the outward appearance of friendship in order to shift her wedding misfortune to the other woman.
She is more patient than me.

Ji-won decides to pretend to be ignorant. She never had any idea why those girls always picked on her back then. But they aren’t in school anymore so bygones will be bygones. She smiles at Snakey and mentions she plans to meet up with Cute Chef soon.

Snakey wonders how Weasel might feel about her meeting a guy, but Ji-won is confident he trusts her. Plus, he is busy making aaaalllll that money on the stock market, hint hint. The broken wheels in Snakey’s mind start working.
These two are just so easy, and not just because she has seen this all before. I'm liking how she's realizing that they are both so obvious and sticking up for her old self by not belittling the old Ji-won who fell for all of this.

At the end of the day while waiting for the elevator, Snakey casually asks Ji-won and the gang out for an office meal, but a look from her friend alters her language into work formality. Everyone has an excuse not to come along. Sunny excitedly raises her hand to join a food adventure, but soon realizes that it’s just whiny Snakey who wants this.
Sunny needs to eat. People should be feeding her all the time.

The elevator opens and everyone sardines inside. Just before it closes, Boss shows up. Honestly, I get lost looking at his face without those huge glasses. He hesitates for a moment, looks at the crowd, and decides to squeeze in anyway. Ms Kim starts a round robin conversation where everyone likes   Ji-won's new look and hopes things go well with Weasel. The doors open and the troops move out. Well, except for Boss, who waits until Ji-won exits the lift. A few of the women paused to look at the pair before walking away.

He stops to ask why she dressed so nice today for work, then gets flustered. He blurts out that he wore contacts like she asked and wonders if she dressed that way for…someone.
Awww.

A smile blooms on her face as she said dressing pretty made her coworkers treat her differently. He doesn’t understand why the clothes would make a difference; regardless, she plans on getting closer to her colleagues. His answering grin makes her smile to. She thinks he could probably loosen up his wardrobe and smile more often.
Yes, this.

That’s all it takes for him to decide to call somebody. Oooh will we get to see him in some casual clothes?

After leaving her clients, Ji-won strolls down the street. She hears a happy scream and sees Sunny spinning out of a mall with a designer bag in her arms. She’s a foodie and a shopaholic. Ji-won smiles and starts to walk towards her, but stops when she sees Ji-hyuk run up to Hui-yeon carrying a bunch of shopping bags. Her face falls when she sees they are together and very comfortable with each other.
Sigh. I would've sighed, too, because I wouldn't want to compete with Sunny. She is pretty and fun and loyal and will want to go to lots of places with good food. What's not to like?

At home, she remembers in her past life that Slimeball Manager Kim said that Boss and Sunny had an “inappropriate” relationship at work, forcing Sunny to be transferred. She assumes they are dating.

In fact, they are clearly family. Sunny is at the Yoo Mansion, regaling Ji-hyuk’s grandfather with the story of their shopping adventures. Oh, she calls him Grandpa too! They leave together in Boss’ car; once they leave, Grandfather turns grim and orders his assistant to research Ji-won’s background.
I'm glad they didn't drag this out for the people who didn't read the webcomic. Also, Grandpa knows something's up because of Ji-hyuk's behavior change. Jury is still out on whether this is a good or bad thing.

Boss meets up with the Chicken Guys and martial arts them into the floor mats, all the while mumbling how to teach a woman self-defense. He takes a long, hot, steamy, wet shower. He stares at his reflection in the mirror. We also stare at his reflection on our screens.

He has a heart-shaped birthmark on his clavicle, which looks very similar to the mark Ji-won’s dad drew on her allowance. Clearly there is a connection between him and the events surrounding Ji-won. Did he also transmigrate? (BTW he looks great with wet hair, just sayin’)
Were you talking? I was so distracted and wanted to trace that heart that it took me a bit to remember where I had seen it before. Then I remembered thinking whether he had actually met dad, like did he take the same taxi from beyond, too?

In a smokin’ smoking robe, he pours a stiff drink and wanders to his couch while talking to himself. Or, rather, talking to a sweet orange tabby.
I found the robe jarring because it did not seem like the kind of robe he would have. It's more like something Lin Lan Ser wears in Cubic (see that SqueeCap). But then I wondered if his sister bought it for him. It's the kind of thing she'd buy him to "liven up" his wardrobe, and he wears it because it's comfy and he's too lazy to buy something else.

He wants to know if he should tell Ji-won everything, including the future. Whelp, I guess he did go back in time as well! That should make their relationship development must faster, right? Right?
You have a lot of hope. I like it.

We get another flashback at Ji-won’s funeral. Both Weasel and Snakey are arrested mid-meal on suspicious of murder. He bolts away from law enforcement and screams that she was going to die anyway. Ugh. Ji-hyuk watches the shenanigans.

The Mean Girls speculate that the arrested pair were having an affair, and wonder if Soo-min was the catalyst that caused Ji-won and Eun-ho to break up. Cute Chef shows up at the funeral hall and hears this.
He never hated her then. So sad for him and her. But why are the Mean Girls even here when they disliked her so much?
Because, reasons.

Ji-hyuk remembers feeling helpless and regretful. But during that first life, he dodges an orange cat in the road and ends up rolling his BMW into a construction site. When he woke up, it was ten years in the past and he now had his heart birthmark.
So, no taxi from beyond?

FINAL THOUGHTS

Based on the preview, things are going to get angsty and violent from now on. Well, for sure Weasel deserves a few punches in the solar plexus.

Hoping that he gets punched a lot. But you act like these first eps weren't angsty and violent, Shuk. Cute Boss has really brightened or maybe distracted your viewpoint. He dies in this ep, for goodness sakes. I mean he comes back and all, but still.

I’m sad there are now misunderstandings between Sunny, Ji-won, and Boss. She really needs a good friend and a strong backer right now if she is to turn her life around for the better. I hope this doesn’t last too long.

Agreed.
