The Problematic of the Unproblematic

THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE POLAR TUNNEL. kakashi: If you say so?  Also: Encouraged by the success Kakashi has had in bringing herself to the attention of Kim Ji Hoon, I would like to be as noticed by my lovely puppy, @BN_SJ2013 (follow, follow, follow!) . He will be alerted to this and future episodes. Tweet him and tell him how much you love him, and what a nice person I am. Lie and tell him I'm rich while you're at it. I can be a sugar mama! kakashi: Will do, JoAnne. Anything to make you happy. 

How does this show just keep getting better? Music plays an important role in this episode as the roommates bring out their bare faces and the place is rocking with fun. In an effort to build relationships, the roommates pair up for activities.  Once again it is Wookie who gives us some truly laughable moments as he tries to work with Se Ho on a lip sync rendition of Love is An Open Door. bcook: That song is pretty awesome. I start singing it when I see the title. JoAnne: Still haven't seen the movie. At this point I almost feel like I CAN'T see it.

I happy to see people are as fascinated by the creepiness as I am. Lee Joon is doing an awesome job and the murders are sufficiently chilling... FYI there are major spoilers ahead. They won't tell you who Gap Dong is though because Nobody Knows! I'm usually good at guessing who the bad guy is but I have no idea with this show. And that's why I love it. Also.... Where we are in the show: 2 victims. Identity of Gap Dong still unknown. Suspicions high.

We take a temporary break from the search for Jae-hee to spend some time getting acquainted with our new setup and introduce Hoon to the characters at Myung Woo Hospital. This means that the drama starts to look a little  bit more like what you'd expect from a medical drama, but you don't have to worry: it doesn't last long. The weird is here to stay. JoAnne: Cute judgy faces would like to know if you have a PROBLEM with that. bcook: Nope. WTF is good. Normal is bad.

Arighty! Romance-wise, things are developing nicely ... Jae-hwa is showing clear signs of falling in love and Bori isn't entirely immune to his cuteness either. It would take a stone, really. This drama continues to deliver an awful lot of crazy mixed with some very funny stuff and discussing any of it at length really isn't possible. Just watch it, people. It's good. JoAnne: I still see grade school sibling roughhousing. I do not see love. However, I do see a WHOLE lot of other crazy ass stuff so I'm good.

Things calm down a little bit in the noonasphere as our Puppy is clearly having an effect on Ji Yeon this week. Someone needs to hurry up and just tell Polar Bear he's not the end game, though, because clearly he's not taking the hints the right way, and even if he only got a few minutes air time those were precious minutes we could have spent with Dong Ha. Or Spinach, or even Ban Eomma and Director Shekshi. ANYONE but stupidface, please. kakashi: Well said. Things may be calming down, but they for sure are not OKAY as long as Asshat takes up space and time (including mine). Though he makes me rhyme. And since just bashing Asshat is getting old, maybe we should start bashing Ji-yeon some more, too. Because at the center of all this stupidity is her.  

Episode One of Roommate introduced our housemates as one by one they arrived at the house. This week, narrated by So Ra, the group continues to get to know each other and the rules are set. How will 11 people work out the details of living together? JoAnne: When we would vacation in Maine it was with 2 other families, so the numbers would range between 19 and 10 or so, depending on which kids were what age and how many friends they were bringing. A week of that was tons of fun but tiring for my tiny family of me and daughter, and we knew these people as closely as family! 11 strangers is mind boggling to me. bcook: Make the rules and stick to them. That's the only way. And remember to never make the fights personal. At my undergrad we live in houses not dorms (but that's as close as I've gotten to living with a lot of strangers.) Kim Ji-hoon lovers, get ready for a treat! Our boy brings out his cutest side and he isn't even in love yet! If you're not yet a Kim Ji-hoon lover (does such a thing exist?), you will soon be. I promise. Also, I'm convinced he is only wearing this terrible jacket for our protection. JoAnne: It's like we're watching a whole other drama. This looks and sounds like a 70s sitcom now. There's not a laugh track but that's about the only thing missing.

Shuk:  Should we start a drinking game?  One shot every time PD Leo gets left behind with a thoughtful look on his face? And one piece of deokbeokki every time Dork does something jerky. That way we can be fat and sloshed. JoAnne: Sounds like a plan!

Now that the roommates are moving in, we get a glimpse into their real personalities as well as what they can expect from living in the house. Yes, couples are encouraged to form and will even be rewarded with a trip! This just gets better and better. JoAnne: Awww, maybe someone will fall in love. Wait how long do they even live in this house? bcook: Heck! For that prize I would try my hardest to fall in love. (It wouldn't take much...just my ajusshi smiling at me) First to move in is EXO puppy, ChanYeol, arriving all by his lonesome, bright and early in the morning. To say he's in awe of his new domicile is putting it mildly. When comedian Se Ho moves in, I had to laugh at poor ChanYeol trying to figure out if he should answer the door or just wait. He should have hid because Se Ho has him unloading all his stuff while he places his giant photo of himself prominently in the living room. ChanYeol just smiles and tells the camera he was excited to have something to do.

Just get lost, Polar Bear Asshat. I really don't want to deal with you anymore. Shoo! Shooooo! JoAnne: THIS is what we want to see. Yes. While he sings to us. Well, while a recording of him singing plays. I don't want him singing into my mouth.

When I watched this episode late, late at night, I remember thinking: "Wow, this drama is getting better and better". I am not sure that's true (I tend to think weird stuff late at night) but it's certainly very entertaining. It has funny-silly bits and it has outrageous-stupid bits and though it makes me shake my head all the time, I still wouldn't want to miss this crazy ride for the world. It's totally one of those WTF dramas. The ones I particularly love.  JoAnne: When you say 'better' what do you mean, exactly? Because... kakashi: For example. This episode has a lot of Kim Ji-hoon!

Episode 2 gives us yet another abrupt time-skip, ups the crazy factor, introduces a new set of characters, and marks the birth of my new favorite thing: Crazy Hoon! Do I understand it? No, not really. Do I love it? Oh, yes. JoAnne: By the Power of the Puppy, he compels us.  Look at that face. It's designed for noonas. bcook: Bring on the WTF! *rubs hands together*

Move over, Secret Love Affair, there's a new show in town.  It's not a drama, but I can tell within the first ten minutes it will be my new crack.  It's the new Korean variety show, Roommate. bcook: love it! love it! love it! Warning Shin Sung Woo Ajusshi is mine! All Mine!! *marks her territory* JoAnne: And every time you don't look I pat his butt.
