Witch's Romance - Episode 12

Posted by JoAnne on May 31, 2014
kakashi: If you say so?
Also: Encouraged by the success Kakashi has had in bringing herself to the attention of Kim Ji Hoon, I would like to be as noticed by my lovely puppy, @BN_SJ2013 (follow, follow, follow!). He will be alerted to this and future episodes. Tweet him and tell him how much you love him, and what a nice person I am. Lie and tell him I'm rich while you're at it. I can be a sugar mama!
kakashi: Will do, JoAnne. Anything to make you happy.

Roommate Ep 3 - Love is an Open Door

Posted by lafer on May 31, 2014
How does this show just keep getting better? Music plays an important role in this episode as the roommates bring out their bare faces and the place is rocking with fun. In an effort to build relationships, the roommates pair up for activities.  Once again it is Wookie who gives us some truly laughable moments as he tries to work with Se Ho on a lip sync rendition of Love is An Open Door.
bcook: That song is pretty awesome. I start singing it when I see the title.
JoAnne: Still haven't seen the movie. At this point I almost feel like I CAN'T see it.

Gap Dong - A CreepCap ... The Creep Continues (ep 4-5)

Posted by bcook on May 31, 2014
I happy to see people are as fascinated by the creepiness as I am. Lee Joon is doing an awesome job and the murders are sufficiently chilling... FYI there are major spoilers ahead. They won't tell you who Gap Dong is though because Nobody Knows! I'm usually good at guessing who the bad guy is but I have no idea with this show. And that's why I love it.
Where we are in the show: 2 victims. Identity of Gap Dong still unknown. Suspicions high.

Doctor Stranger - Episode 3 (A SqueeCap)

Posted by becca_boo on May 30, 2014
We take a temporary break from the search for Jae-hee to spend some time getting acquainted with our new setup and introduce Hoon to the characters at Myung Woo Hospital. This means that the drama starts to look a little bit more like what you'd expect from a medical drama, but you don't have to worry: it doesn't last long. The weird is here to stay.
JoAnne: Cute judgy faces would like to know if you have a PROBLEM with that.
bcook: Nope. WTF is good. Normal is bad.

Jang Bori Is Here! - Episode 14 (KimJiCap)

Posted by Kakashi Sensei on May 29, 2014
Arighty! Romance-wise, things are developing nicely ... Jae-hwa is showing clear signs of falling in love and Bori isn't entirely immune to his cuteness either. It would take a stone, really. This drama continues to deliver an awful lot of crazy mixed with some very funny stuff and discussing any of it at length really isn't possible. Just watch it, people. It's good.
JoAnne: I still see grade school sibling roughhousing. I do not see love. However, I do see a WHOLE lot of other crazy ass stuff so I'm good.

Witch's Romance - Episode 11 (A Slightly Calmer Squee)

Posted by JoAnne on May 29, 2014
Things calm down a little bit in the noonasphere as our Puppy is clearly having an effect on Ji Yeon this week. Someone needs to hurry up and just tell Polar Bear he's not the end game, though, because clearly he's not taking the hints the right way, and even if he only got a few minutes air time those were precious minutes we could have spent with Dong Ha. Or Spinach, or even Ban Eomma and Director Shekshi. ANYONE but stupidface, please.
kakashi: Well said. Things may be calming down, but they for sure are not OKAY as long as Asshat takes up space and time (including mine). Though he makes me rhyme. And since just bashing Asshat is getting old, maybe we should start bashing Ji-yeon some more, too. Because at the center of all this stupidity is her.

Roommate Ep 2 - Giffing to Know You

Posted by lafer on May 28, 2014
Episode One of Roommate introduced our housemates as one by one they arrived at the house. This week, narrated by So Ra, the group continues to get to know each other and the rules are set. How will 11 people work out the details of living together?

JoAnne: When we would vacation in Maine it was with 2 other families, so the numbers would range between 19 and 10 or so, depending on which kids were what age and how many friends they were bringing. A week of that was tons of fun but tiring for my tiny family of me and daughter, and we knew these people as closely as family! 11 strangers is mind boggling to me.
bcook: Make the rules and stick to them. That's the only way. And remember to never make the fights personal. At my undergrad we live in houses not dorms (but that's as close as I've gotten to living with a lot of strangers.)

In keeping with the squeecap format of this blog, I must start this with an homage to a shirtless Wookie. Even though the show starts where we left off in Episode One with Bom getting situated, our Wookie needs a shower. He has been dieting, so why not do a little flaunting before hand?  And Wookie, next time do it a little closer to the camera, please. Of course it seems to depress his roommate Se Ho who remarks "wow, our bodies are complete opposites", lol.
JoAnne: I remember him saying that and it was one of the things that endeared him to me a little bit. He's a little pudgy but really pretty normal and everyone else is so...hmm...fit.
bcook: Wookie lost some of his muscle though coz he's starving himself "for art"

Bom can't seem to stay quiet in her room with her sleeping roommates so she decides to take her stuff out to the couch. She attracts the attention of Wookie, Se Ho and Min Woo, who come to chat with her.  Any pre-conceived ideas I had of Bom have gone out the window because I find her adorable. She obviously has retained a lot of her American ways of speaking (having lived there for about ten years) and refers to Wookie as "you over there." I love how in a later interview she was shocked to realize she did that and says she must have been out of her mind. She admits to not knowing if she's rude or not. She's vain and quirky and quite outspoken but seems to possess a unique charm.
JoAnne: Wow, I just wiki'd her- she went from elementary school through college here in New England! I had no idea.  Like you, I find her oddly charming.  And her rather 'doll-like' appearance just adds to a feeling that you want to take care of her.
bcook: I luff her. I want to be her friend. She seems really sweet. When you look at her younger self she doesn't look too different from what she does now. So either her plastic surgeon is very good, or there is some credence to her "I have an illness" excuse.
Speaking of charm, our adorable ChanYeol continues to charm us. We see him coming in after finishing his MV at 5 a.m., and upon confirming that Hot Aj is his roommate, he bows 90 degrees to a sleeping Sung Woo, then claps excitedly to himself.  Everything makes him smile! This guy is just too sweet! He runs into NaNa as she's leaving for a schedule and tries to find her shoes, even though she was only joking when she asked him. You may win the house favorite award from your roommates, Chan Yeol.
JoAnne: He is a complete and utter peach of a boy. I luff him.  That smile, those ears, his eagerness to experience things, his politeness, his cheeriness...I could go on, but I'll just say this:  his group mates call him their Happy Virus.  It fits!
bcook:  Eh. He seems easily imprintable. I hope he shows some more personality as the show goes on.
Morning at the house finds So Ra and Miss MMA up early for a walk and cup of coffee. I'm happy to see So Ra is making an effort to befriend people.  In the kitchen we find Hot Aj chopping away, who I guess I should officially call Mama Shin (or Shin Omma) as his roommates do. Well, I'm sure you'll still be Hot Aj to most of us. Poor Wookie is practically salivating at the food but says he has to diet so can't eat. Wookie - abs are nice but so's a little meat!
JoAnne: In this day and age, who ever heard of NOT eating as a method of dieting? Doesn't he have a trainer or anything?  Like you, I'm relieved that So Ra didn't turn out to be an enormous bitch. Ok you didn't say that but we all wondered.
bcook: Word. He's not dieting per se. He says that he doesn't eat when he's acting (probably coz of stress) for focus or something like that. I wasn't paying attention.

First on today's agenda -  the men visiting the Mexican Embassy to get their helicopter back.  Pretty Eyes said he recently studied in Malyasia for two years, where he spoke English, yet when he loses a game of rock paper scissors and has to do the talking, he completely fails.  At which point, Se Ho, who said he learned English in kindergarten in Japan, takes over and is practically fluent in English. Even Min Woo and Chan Yeol speak English with the workers of the house!  The whole exchange is rather hilarious. All their efforts are for naught, though, as they are not allowed in the embassy and the maid can't find the helicopter. But I think we're starting to get a glimpse into the rather vapid mind of Mr. Pretty Eyes. That's OK, Kang Joon, you can just smile and we'll be happy.

JoAnne: Can we all just link hands and pray that he's just overwhelmed and shy and that it is NOT what it appears to be?  Because if it is, I think his two brain cells may die of loneliness and if they go, he goes, and we cannot afford to lose that gorgeousness.
bcook: bwahaha. That was the biggest English fail ever. Also learning English in Japan does not = fluent English. Dude took additional classes. Why not admit it? Probably because it spoils the story.

The house holds a meeting where the rules are discussed. Soo Hyun will manage the finances because she's a master at getting the most for your money,  but when the subject of cooking comes up, the roommates all stare off into space.  Poor Mama Shin has to take over the cooking.  Once again, you've got to wonder what he's thinking of these ten other people who admittedly can't cook at all. And to add insult to injury, Bom asks if he could please shave his facial hair since he's the chef - for sanitary reasons. And he agrees!  You gotta love him!
JoAnne: First off, I am highly annoyed that they made these rules when everyone wasn't present. That doesn't seem fair. Secondly, a beard is a problem? Look at the deadly weapons glued to the end of every female's fingers, Bom-ah. And I'm not talking deadly as in murder. No, I'm talking deadly as in germ catching basins for fomenting disease and diarrhea.  Not to mention all those 4 foot long waterfalls of hair extensions flying all around the place without a hair tie in sight.  You're worried about a BEARD hair? Please.
bcook: I know!! I totally thought Bom was out of line. She clearly made that sanitation thing up. How she doesn't like my ajusshi's beard I have no idea. Sadly his shexiness goes down 10 points without the beard. He's still MINE!!!

I think the most hilarious part of the show comes next, as Wookie and Pretty Eyes go off to get Pretty Eyes a cellphone so all the roommates can group chat. Observation #1 - Pretty Eyes is really nervous about what his manager will think of him getting a phone.  Apparently it was too much of a distraction when he'd had one before.  Observation #2 - Good acting and high intelligence don't always go hand in hand. These two are like the blind leading the blind. I couldn't stop from laughing at their blank faces as the salesperson asks them what kind of phone and plan they want, juxtaposed between clips of high powered roles they've played in dramas. Wookie is so self-deprecating it's adorable.

JoAnne: Speaking as a person who's bought two cell phones in her life, I have a bit more sympathy for them. I'm thinking, at least in Wookie's case, that he has people who take care of that kind of thing. So why would he know? For Puppy, well...who knows. It IS really funny how nervous he is and how they all accept that as a known condition of the business and have ways  he can reassure the manager. Mostly I was wondering if they bought a month-to-month plan because the minute the show is over, that phone is gone.
bcook: If you watch the idol variety shows they really get into trouble for having cell phones. I loved the editing in this scene. The PDs have a great sense of humour. I like to think I'm pretty savvy about phones but even I was confused. You never know how much data you need until you use the phone.

Next comes the beard shaving ceremony with Bom, Miss MMA, Se Ho and poor Mama Shin.  This guy is a great sport.  There's a lot of fun with the whole process, but I do hear a few hearts breaking around the world at the loss of his beard and mustache. Hey, Mama Shin, don't worry.  When Roommate is over, you can go back to being your swarthy, Three Musketeer self. But now you are the chef, and watching him make this huge meal, with the help of his "kitchen tower", makes me wonder how long he's going enjoy cooking for so many people.

JoAnne: How long do they all live together, anyway?  He looks good without it, but he looks better with it.  Rawr. I wonder if we get to see HIM shirtless at some point? Probably not. He doesn't seem particularly vain, although how can he not be?
bcook: He grows it back! Look at the interviews. It comes back right away!! So happy. (unless its just editing and the shoot was before the beard...*weeps*)

So Ra's puppy Giselle is sick, and Soo Hyun and Min Woo are playfully shopping. Soo Hyun admits that Min Woo and Kang Joon are both like younger brothers, but hey, that doesn't mean she can't do lots of flirting with them, right?
JoAnne: Yes because I flirt with my brothers, don't you? I guess now we know where K-Dramas get it from.
bcook: They are "like" brothers. I flirt with my little sister's male friends all the time. (Why am I trying to justify her behavior?)(Because you want to flirt with the puppies. Go right ahead. I'll be in the kitchen showing Shin Eomma a few new things he can do with fruits and vegetables.)

When Chan Yeol arrives home, everyone is all together for the first time.  They make him get up and introduce himself by singing and dancing a part of his song.  Of course he's told they all had to do it (NOT!) and poor Chan Yeol is so eager to please that he does as told. Wookie suggests they each tell about their best attributes, which leads to a piano war between Pretty Eyes and Chan Yeol. Poor Min Woo - once again he's feeling overshadowed.
And once again Miss MMA shows that she's the best at knocking people out, demonstrated on Wookie.  You should have picked someone else, Ga Yeon, because he really can't afford to lose any more brain cells!

JoAnne: Yes, no cutting off of oxygen supplies, Missy.
bcook:  That was an awesomely funny bit and I laughed and laughed and watched it again and again. You can see the panic.

Favorite moment #2 for me was watching Chan Yeol eat a meal that Mama Shin so kindly made especially for him.  Afraid to speak up, Chan Yeol said he was OK with spicy food.  Watching him eat every bit of a dish that was obviously way spicier than he liked was both laughable and endearing.
JoAnne: How many times can I say he's a sweetheart before I make my own self sick...but I mean he is SUCH a SWEETHEART.
bcook: Eh.

As the evening goes on, the guys bond. This was particularly touching as the younger guys sing the song Mama Shin made famous 20 years ago. It was apparent Mama Shin was honored that they all knew it. Things get even more serious as Wookie explains his insecurity about acting and the nightmares he has before the start of every drama. Wow. I never would have guessed that from him. I guess that's why he's a good actor.
JoAnne: I wonder if they were coached off camera or if they just really all knew it, because that was cool.
bcook: I literally cried and fell in love with my Ajusshi during this scene. He was so touched and humble *sigh*. Poor Wookie to have those fears. It just goes to show, what you see is only 5% of what is going on in peoples heads.
JoAnne: It's true - after the first few things they do, you just don't expect them to be nervous - but I guess it's a constant condition. Ugh. Would not like that.
Cute picture of Bom thrown in just because!
The girls, at least Soo Hyun and Na Na, do some bonding of their own over an order of chicken and champagne (at least for Soo Hyun. I'm looking forward to seeing her a little tipsy with the guys.)  I'm happy to see that these two are starting to get along really well over a game of go-stop.  I'll take you one beer and chicken dinner and raise it to champagne and chicken, thank you very much.

bcook: I'm making Korean friend chicken tomorrow! Must remember to buy the champagne.

And the day ends with Mama Shin and Chan Yeol in their room, enjoying each other's company and love of music. I adore being a voyeur into these people's lives. While I can't say I was previously a fan of any of them, I am pleasantly surprised at how excited I am to watch them interact.  And for once I'm not just obsessed with love lines!
bcook: That was pretty sweet. When two people vibe like that over something they both obviously love...it's quite beautiful. And of course now I can imagine my ajusshi leaning on the bed like that as we talk into the night. \^ ^/
JoAnne: You keep having him sit there while you talk. I have other intentions. We'll see where he hangs out.

Quote of the Day:  When Miss MMA started fighting with So He on the couch and once again crushed him.  I loved her response:  "It was time to take him out."  You go, girl!
JoAnne: I really like her!

Jang Bori Is Here! - Episode 13 (KimJiCap)

Posted by Kakashi Sensei on May 28, 2014
Kim Ji-hoon lovers, get ready for a treat! Our boy brings out his cutest side and he isn't even in love yet! If you're not yet a Kim Ji-hoon lover (does such a thing exist?), you will soon be. I promise. Also, I'm convinced he is only wearing this terrible jacket for our protection.
JoAnne: It's like we're watching a whole other drama. This looks and sounds like a 70s sitcom now. There's not a laugh track but that's about the only thing missing.

Fall In Love With Both Of Me - Episode 7 (A SqueeCap)

Shuk:  Should we start a drinking game?  One shot every time PD Leo gets left behind with a thoughtful look on his face? And one piece of deokbeokki every time Dork does something jerky. That way we can be fat and sloshed.
JoAnne: Sounds like a plan!

Roommate, The Move-In Episode 1 part 2

Posted by lafer on May 25, 2014
Now that the roommates are moving in, we get a glimpse into their real personalities as well as what they can expect from living in the house. Yes, couples are encouraged to form and will even be rewarded with a trip! This just gets better and better.
JoAnne: Awww, maybe someone will fall in love. Wait how long do they even live in this house?
bcook: Heck! For that prize I would try my hardest to fall in love. (It wouldn't take much...just my ajusshi smiling at me)

First to move in is EXO puppy, ChanYeol, arriving all by his lonesome, bright and early in the morning. To say he's in awe of his new domicile is putting it mildly.
When comedian Se Ho moves in, I had to laugh at poor ChanYeol trying to figure out if he should answer the door or just wait. He should have hid because Se Ho has him unloading all his stuff while he places his giant photo of himself prominently in the living room. ChanYeol just smiles and tells the camera he was excited to have something to do. Oh man, I'm going to want to adopt this guy, massive hat collection and all!
JoAnne: What an absolute doll. A son to be proud of! He has the brightest eyes and smile ever, and his ears stick out so far~he's adorable! And really TALL.
bcook:  He's alright *hears the thunder of EXO fans rushing to protest* He's just a puppy really. He seems to be very big on maturing through experience (which is weird. Or maybe I just have crap subtitles)

The housemates are given boxes with clues as to who their roommate will be. Se Ho wonders if it's a prank when he realizes that not only will his roommate but 184 cm (vs his 169 cm) but will be Wookie, a compelling actor and a complete opposite from him. (One thing I love about this show is how they superimpose both roommates in the room at the same time as if seeing a future interaction.) After telling ChanYeol to look to him as a brother, Se Ho is off to an appointment and ChanYeol heads to bed for a little shut eye before leaving for his own schedule.  Before ChanYeol leaves, he writes a message to his roommates on the big chalk board.

JoAnne: A gesture I thought was very thoughtful and friendly!
bcook: Were Se Ho and Wookie in army together? Trying to figure out how they know each other. It would explain the easy friendship.

With the first 2 gone, Soo Hyun moves into the house alone. Along with some cat ears (in case of a party) and a fair amount of alcohol, she brings a chair which she realizes will not go into either the living room or her pretty new room.  Bye bye chair!
Soo Hyun's first thoughts on finding out her roommate will be Na Na? She's young.  Soo Hyun wanders around the house mumbling to herself waiting for the next arrival, who is everyone's favorite ajusshi, Sung Woo.
JoAnne: She seems eager to please and maybe a little worried that she won't fit in. The alcohol really made me laugh.
bcook:  She annoyed me for a little bit. But yes I did find the alcohol packing amusing.

Even though the awkwardness is palatable, Soo Hyun greets Sung Woo and follows him around while he figures out, very quickly I might add, that his roommate is ChanYeol. He seems less concerned about that fact and more concerned when Na Na's arrival is preceded by all her belongings, including a full length cutout of herself.  As Sung Woo becomes responsible for moving her stuff in, he ponders how NaNa could be so narcissistic and says "This might be a little difficult." haha

JoAnne: Why would those two (Se Ho and NaNa) bring pictures or cut outs of themselves? I don't understand it at all.  I'm impressed by how readily Sung Woo jumps in to help with stuff, though. Every one seems to be, actually, as you watch them.
bcook: It seems to be "the thing" for famous (or very rich) people in korea to have giant pictures of themselves. usually in their bedroom. ref Greatest Love, Full House (1&2) etc.

Next at the door in Min Woo.  Awww, he's so reverential to his elders as he bows deeply and asks them to talk comfortably.  Now every time a doorbell rings, Soo Hyun and Sung Woo run to greet them. It's Kang Joon, Mr. Pretty Eyes.
It's cute how the clues for Min Woo and Kang Joon are that they look like other actors, older actors. Kang Joon studied in Malaysia so tries to speak in English - you can tell this will be used for a laugh now and then.  Soo Hyun is practically gaga over Mr. Pretty Eyes - well, I for one am not putting any blame there!

JoAnne: Yep, she is ALL over him. And I mean, sure, look at him, of course - but then again, SUNG WOO. I will even forgive him for wearing a fanny pack!
bcook: I totally missed Min Woo's entrance but he's my fav. Soo Hyun was sooooooo all over Kang Joon it was slightly nauseating to see.

The four housemates are off to the store, and the jockeying begins.  Soo Hyun is like a kid in a candy store, sitting in the back with Mr. Pretty Eyes and engaging him and Min Woo in flirtatious conversation.  Don't worry Sung Woo, even if I have to look up your name every time I write about you, you will still get PLENTY of love from here!  Can we just call you Hot Aj for now? Poor Min Woo seems to be getting shut out of the convo even though it's clear that Pretty Eyes is still really green behind the ears and shocking Min Woo and Hot Aj with his lack of respect.  Geez, they take this stuff pretty seriously! Although Soo Hyun is all a-giggle, of course.
JoAnne: That's something I'd been picking up on as well - people are deeply polite to each other. If anything, the rules are followed MORE than in dramas, but it doesn't even really feel like rules. It feels like these people genuinely want to make the others feel comfortable.  Please don't tell me it's all an act. Just let me live in my bubble of nice pretty people for a while.
bcook: Hot Aj = My Ajusshi!! So you may call him BAjus or Ajusook. I had to watch again to figure out why they were shocked at the way Kang Joon was talking. He was polite, but didn't use sunbaenim or seonsaengnim (which I don't really understand but I guess after a certain number of years in the industry you automatically take on teacher like qualities?)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (hehe. My friends and I say that after an awkward silence) , Miss MMA Ga Yeon moves in and almost immediately causes the pool table to collapse. You can't help but cringe for her.
More awkwardness ensues as Se Ho returns, and he and Miss MMA adjust to being in the house together. While trying to outdo the other with kindness, Se Ho ends up landing on his butt which I'm not sure helped ease or contribute to Ga Yeon's discomfort! Decking him, even tho it was at his request, probably didn't ease things either.
JoAnne: I laughed SO hard.  And then I rewound it and watched it again and laughed some more. And now thinking about it, I'm laughing again.
bcook: Poor guy was writhing I'm sure a little of it was for comedic effect (but not that much). I loved how she said "I did it hard so that he wouldn't ask me to hit him again....It wasn't that hard tho"

At the store, Soo Hyun hooks arms with Pretty Eyes and takes off down the aisle.  (yeahhhhh) while Min Woo brushes it off saying that's why he likes Soo Hyun - even though she's being filmed she does what she wants.  I can't wait to see more from these three.
I love how she does this under the guise of taking care of him because he's young (just like I want to take care of Song Joong Ki)
JoAnne: yeah, I think it's going to be fun. Unless she watches herself in this episode and realizes no one is ever going to buy her 'oh he's a cute dongsaeng' excuse for more than 30 seconds.
bcook: Are they going to have a love triangle storyline? Hey readers! Do you know how to pick the second lead? The one you ship the most because he's so kind and sweet?? That's the one that doesn't get the girl. This may be 'reality' but it's still on SBS.

Back at the kitchen, the shoppers are unpacking their groceries.  You really get the feeling that sometimes Hot Aj feels like he's dealing with a bunch of teenagers as he tries to explain an orderly way to stock the refrigerator. He admits he's changed over the years and even says he's like a neighborhood lady. No Hot Aj, we will never think of you as a neighborhood lady! But the apron and hair drawn on him are pretty funny.
JoAnne: Shin Eomma makes me giggle, it's true.  And I gotta tell ya...the combination of thoroughly domesticated sweetheart with rock god/bad boy looks is killer.
bcook: I luff him *sigh*. We even order our fridges the same way.

As the roommates work busily in the kitchen, supermodel So Ra arrives with so much luggage that Se Ho kids her with "welcome to our hotel" as he and Pretty Eyes deliver it. Once again the awkward-o-meter spikes as So Ra watches everyone interact and unintentionally leave her out.  Hey, I can relate to So Ra and Hot Aj, who have to feel a little more uncomfortable being the oldest (although I tend to get along with people 30+ years younger than me--maturity has never been my priority.) Luckily she has her dog Giselle for comfort.  Maybe if she took her coat off she'd feel more at home!
JoAnne: She is majorly awkward and I feel bad for her because she looks like she wants to join in but doesn't know how. Seriously, they're all so polite, how could they not notice her anxiousness? It must be the editing. Giselle is cute but how do you bring a dog to a house full of strangers?
bcook: I was totally yelling at the screen telling her to take her coat off! ugh. She wasn't trying at all. I've been in those awkward situations a lot and yes it's very, very hard but you have to try! Giselle is a little fatty.

Na Na bursts on the scene and all the guys rush out to greet her. And the cat claws come out. Soo Hyun is clearly not taken with Na Na and wonders how being roommates will work out. Poor So Ra laments that she didn't get special treatment from Se Ho like Na Na does - ouch. But Na Na is happy to meet So Ra and reaches out to her first.
JoAnne: She seems like a really nice girl, honestly. I wasn't expecting that.

At 10 pm they finally sit down to dinner and introduce themselves formally. I still can't figure out why Pretty Eyes keeps saying he's 22.  Even in Korean age, his birthday is clearly stated (on every site, I checked) as October 12, 1993. (Ok, let me see if I can work this out. Born in Oct 93 so in Jan 94 he turned 1 automatically; so Jan 2014 he should be 21. You're right.  But what if they do like the Chinese and you're 1 at birth - so then in Jan 94 he actually turned 2.  But I don't think so, I hear people talk about the 1st birthday. And actually the important one is 100 days...I dunno.) I thought you were born with one year in korea which is why they're a year ahead. Not saying that he doesn't have a lot of natural acting ability for his age, because when asked who helps him with his script, he says he just does it himself.  I guess you can concentrate hard when you have no cell phone and no drivers license to distract you.  Obviously there is a lot of underlying competition going on between Soo Hyun and Na Na over Pretty Eyes which made for some pretty interesting conversation and really placed him on the hot seat.
But you have to wonder how long a 1993-er would hold the attention of a 34 year old. And once again, poor Min Woo has to witness all the girls going gaga over his roommate.
JoAnne: Maybe someone will come along for the cutie pie. It's just that Kang Joon is such a stunner when you first see him that it sort of wipes everyone else out of your mind, and really, if you think about it...the poor guy.  These women are fawning all over him about his looks and everything, and he must get that all the time.  Wouldn't it be awkward? Wouldn't it make OTHER people (like MinWoo, after enough time) jealous and mean? Would you want to spend time with someone who everyone would treat like a prince and ignore you constantly?
bcook: Is that a trick question? I think You're All Surrounded is treating that rather hilariously. Watch if you aren't already!

After dinner the girls head off to bed, and the ice begins to thaw between Na Na and Soo Hyun.  I'm really glad they will end up getting along well.  Before turning in, the "boys" try and fly a toy remote helicopter that landed on the roof below.  With that mission a failure, they turn in too.  It's interesting that even guys use all those facial moisturizers.
JoAnne: So far, no one has any real animosity toward anyone else, and no one is really being set up to be the jerk the way they would in an American show. I'm glad. Re: moisturizer - do you use that much when you put it on? Do you rub it around so vigorously? Because I use a lot less...I wonder if I should be using more.
bcook: I was really surprised that everybody uses some type of night cream. I think it's just a guy thing Jo. The women were more delicate about what they were using.

Wookie finally arrives at 2:10.  Everyone else is in bed, and he is nervously giggling as he has to carry the stuff up himself. He realizes his roommate is Se Ho, and since they've met before he wakes him up to figure out the lay of the land.  It's obvious that Wookie has been living with his Mom all these years as he can't quite figure out what to do. But 40 minutes later, Park Bom quietly arrives and meets Wookie.  This time someone else is the newbie, so he helps her out. As she tries to get to her bed, Giselle starts barking.  What will she do?
JoAnne: Ok, this, I felt, was just rude. If you show up in a place you don't know at 3 am, you don't go around disrupting a sleeping house.  You park your suitcases in a corner and you go the hell to sleep in the LIVING room without disturbing your sleeping room-mates. You can figure out the real situation in the morning, in daylight, with room-mates who are awake. It was particularly irritating because she kept saying how she didn't want to be rude or disruptive, and then she proceeded to be just those things.  (Lafer: I totally disagree! She had a right to tip-toe into her bed after working until 2:30 a.m. She was speaking very quietly and just walked in the door when the dog barked. I feel the real rudeness was bringing the dog!) I don't feel like she INTENDED to be those things, but the thoughtlessness/airheadedness was a bit irritating.
bcook: I agree with lafer. It's her room too. And seriously if So Ra is so sound sensitive she should have brought some ear plugs. I can't sleep well if there's even a hint of light  (from a charger, alarm clock etc) so when I share a room with other people I bring my sleep mask.

Observation:  While I stated last time that this reminds me of Big Brother, it has more of a Real World feel to it.  The housemates obviously can come and go as they please (or need to.) What I love are the added graphics and comments from the producer as it gives it more of a comic feel. I'm sure we won't see any drama like in Real World, but it will be fun to see how the relationships, both male and female, develop.
JoAnne: I am thoroughly enjoying myself, yes!
bcook: The best producer effects are when they use gag concert music. If you aren't watching gag concert you should be! It's hilarious. KBSworld on youtube has a lot of episodes. (KBS if you're reading I totally want to work for you!!)

JoAnne: THIS is what we want to see. Yes. While he sings to us. Well, while a recording of him singing plays. I don't want him singing into my mouth.

Jang Bori Is Here! - Episode 12 (KimJiCap)

Posted by Kakashi Sensei on May 23, 2014
When I watched this episode late, late at night, I remember thinking: "Wow, this drama is getting better and better". I am not sure that's true (I tend to think weird stuff late at night) but it's certainly very entertaining. It has funny-silly bits and it has outrageous-stupid bits and though it makes me shake my head all the time, I still wouldn't want to miss this crazy ride for the world. It's totally one of those WTF dramas. The ones I particularly love.
JoAnne: When you say 'better' what do you mean, exactly? Because...
kakashi: For example. This episode has a lot of Kim Ji-hoon!

Doctor Stranger - Episode 2 (A SqueeCap)

Episode 2 gives us yet another abrupt time-skip, ups the crazy factor, introduces a new set of characters, and marks the birth of my new favorite thing: Crazy Hoon! Do I understand it? No, not really. Do I love it? Oh, yes.
JoAnne: By the Power of the Puppy, he compels us.  Look at that face. It's designed for noonas.
bcook: Bring on the WTF! *rubs hands together*

Move over, Secret Love Affair, there's a new show in town.  It's not a drama, but I can tell within the first ten minutes it will be my new crack.  It's the new Korean variety show, Roommate.
bcook: love it! love it! love it! Warning Shin Sung Woo Ajusshi is mine! All Mine!! *marks her territory*
JoAnne: And every time you don't look I pat his butt.

[ShukNote: My second computer in six months crashed, leaving me helpless and adrift with these SqueeCaps. Kdramalaws has graciously supplied most of the gifs for this recap, but my current resources do not allow me to preview them. However, I'm going to trust her and post this, sight unseen. Because of this disaster, I don't know when the next SqueeCap will be available for your viewing pleasure, so please bear with me.]
