The Problematic of the Unproblematic

SakiVI: The spooky is back! kakashi: The first of the final three! I loved them. Well, maybe not loved. But liked them! There is some good stuff coming up. FINALLY.  JoAnne:  It's hilarious to me that when it finally gets good (so I hear) I slept through all the episodes no matter how many times I tried.  I look forward to finding out what happened. Trotwood: I just finished watching this and though we finally got some excitement, I'm kind of bitter that it was packed into this episode and not spread out more (like in any one of the episodes where nothing  happened)

kakashi: This episode turned me to mush and into an ardent Mark Chao fan. SO GOOD. JoAnne: You are not the only one. I even like his wig, that's how bad I have it.

kakashi: I'm back at work and that's bad. I have no more time for Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms and I'm crying all day because of it. Okay, I lied: I have time, but far less than before. JoAnne: I thought I would be happy to be caught up to the end of the subbed episodes and get back to trying to see some of my other stories, but I just want more Peach. Trotwood: I don't know if I'll catch up in time to comment on much. Think I only saw Defendant before my stay at an "out-of- The Shining movie" hotel that had no internet (what happens when you travel on a college club budget). Haha, this RAWR is just sad. I think we can say that Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms has temporarily killed it . 

kakashi: Let's see how the Lotus mess-up develops. We're also getting quite close to the end. It fills me with a mixture of panic and glee. SakiVI: As I mentioned before, this latest villain looks like he has a cold sore.  JoAnne: And wears his brains on the outside. I really do not like this look.

kakashi: The changes are subtle and you have to look closely to see them but oh boy, Crown Prince Ye Hua's life has been turned upside down. We spend most of this episode up in the Nine Heavens though, with pleasant and less pleasant deities. Fengjiu still tries to get clo... I mean "repay her debt" to Dijun, but it is much more difficult than she imagined. JoAnne: Thankfully, she manages to be cute as a button without being irritatingly coy and only slightly babyish.

kakashi: And so it begins. Remember how Ye Hua was so sure he would never ever meddle with the life of a mortal? Well, you were wrong, boy. JoAnne: Remember how I couldn't figure out how they'd make that happen? It was so simple, in the end.

kakashi: An unexpected twist occurs! Yes, you had me fooled, show. I am a bit proud of you. JoAnne: Awww, it's WKE! I've missed his pretty face. 

kakashi: Holy hell, the Bell, the Bell! Not goooood, not gooooooood! JoAnne: But there's a kitten, so at least we have that.

SakiVI: Two people seem on the verge of madness in this episode: Professor Chen and Fatty. Read on. kakashi: All things considered, mad Professor Chen is probably my favorite part about this show. But I do not want to anticipate too much.   JoAnne: Oooh, maybe CHEN is the hidden monster. I would love that. There has to be a hidden monster, since there haven't been any out-in-plain-sight monsters. I wonder if Chinese horror movies are like this? ...are there Chinese horror movies? Trotwood: Clearly, it's been to long since someone has died.  

kakashi: The Nine Heavens may look like paradise, but in fact, they're like hell. We learn how horrible the Heavenly Lord really is and why the Crown Prince seems like a miserable black block of ice. Luckily, we also meet a new ship. JoAnne: Do we ever!

kakashi: Kasuo tried, but it's one massive fuck-up. I would be sorry for him if I could stop laughing. He is such a failure. JoAnne: I'm not so sure he failed, exactly. No one bothered to ask about the details. In Western horror stories when you bring someone back from the dead they are always very different and you are rarely glad in the end. I don't know what to expect from a Chinese story, but he did exactly what he was asked to do . SakiVI: See, you have to word things verrrry carrrrefully in wishes.    

kakashi: There's a time jump in this episode. Only of 70'000 years, mind you. Oh, 70'000? Shit. That number rings a bell... JoAnne: Ha. I see what you did there.

SakiVI: Finally we are in the Ancient City of Jingjue and in a temple, woohoo! Maybe something will actually happen. JoAnne: I've almost given up hope . kakashi: It's an excellent episode. Well, I don't remember the details, but I'm confident it is . Trotwood: I just watched it. Excellent is not the adjective I would have used.  

kakashi: How do you deal with the death of a most beloved God? Easy: you make sure his body is preserved and wait for his return. JoAnne: I will just quietly point out the swell of a well-formed chest and the appeal of an adam's apple. Also a strong nose and a noble brow. We will ignore that I am squeeing over a dead body.

kakashi: We get to the goddamn Lotus. Yes, really. They made it. All will be good now. JoAnne: Sorry, I can't help but picture beardless Mark Chao smiling, now. SakiVI: focus, this is Ice Fantasy! And yes, the Lotus. But it's my lovely Lotus that I'm concerned about. 

kakashi: Very, very, VERY busy being completely in love with 3310 aka Ten Miles of Peach Blossomes aka Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms or Eternal Love . There is nothing else in my life right now. JoAnne:  It's Friday morning. I have watched Hwarang this week, and 3310. That's it. So keep that in mind for when you get to below, and judge me for how much TV I manage to watch (or don't) this weekend. Be merciful and if you happen to show up at my house, ignore the dust and dirty laundry . Trotwood: I really wish I was able to drop by your house this weekend. I'd ignore everything, but you that is. I feel like I'm the only one of the planet not watching 3310. I'm still holding on to my focus for my Korean teacher. I rewatched ALL of Noble, My Love this week to make myself feel better. I reread our squeecaps, too. Fun memories. Jaehyus: Ha, I'm the only one not enamoured of 3310. But then, I'm not enamoured of any one partic...

SakiVI: Finally, the Ancient City of Jingjue! kakashi: Yaaaaaaay ..... still boring.  Trotwood: But there is death! Finally. JoAnne: I'm ready for this to be done.  

kakashi: Nail-biting, heart-crushing and incredibly suspenseful. Are you ready for the heartbreak? JoAnne: I reject this reality. In this fantasy. Do not want.

SakiVI: Girl Student makes a right pain of herself in this episode. Didn’t either professor have any other students to make up their crew? At any rate, she also helps us finally get to the Zhagelama Valley, so she isn’t entirely useless and annoying, just like 99% useless and annoying. kakashi: Oh, look! Something happens . Trotwood; I actually forgave her a bit in this episode. She was not whiny or anything and made sure they weren't going to stop because of her. And as Saki said. She pointed the way (although in a hugely dramatic fashion). JoAnne: I did understand and respect her wish to just press on, regardless. We have the objectivity to say she was much too sick for that, but I understand her intent. It's just that it would have been so much easier if she'd instead opted to say 'hey, I don't feel so hot' and taken advantage of the antibiotics they had available early on. I don't understand why she didn't do that. They would never have gott...

kakashi: This episode brings us another step closer to war and we have a lot to worry about. The God of War remains injured and an unlikely character plots with the devils to make sure they win the war. JoAnne: Is it bad of me to be more curious about the little kid in the picture than in the fate of that witch?

kakashi: An intriguing episode, in which different people plot different things and ... would you look at these eyelashes? Damn. JoAnne: I always start at his lips and then get stuck there.

kakashi: In the last episode, 2nd Prince Li Jing reminded me of Papageno, in this ep, he reminds me of Young Werther. He is so "Sturm und Drang", he is almost comical. Alas, like with so many people of this disposition, he mainly acts on impulse and lacks both patience and true conviction. Grave mistakes are the result of it.   JoAnne: He makes a whiplash u-turn in behavior here and starts to lose me a little bit... but then we get a straight on view of his face again and I waver. I waver hard. I'm not ashamed to admit it.

kakashi: Oh look, Wingkind Emperor has already moved on to his rebound girl! There is nothing that cures a broken heart better than new love. JoAnne: I don't buy it.

kakashi: Do not make the mistake of getting on the wrong ship, people. There is only one guy in this drama who would take three lightning strikes for Si Yin (and survive it). JoAnne: I'm going to sit on the sinking ship for now and when it's the last minute I'll jump to the lightning boat. Look, he's so hot, he's smoking . 

kakashi: Oh wait ..... is this Xing Gui?! What happened to you, innocent child? Also, I'm starting to get a bit impatient for that Lotus. You? JoAnne: She looks better without bangs. SakiVI: we knew from way back when that she was in touch with the Black Smoke. Okay, guess this is why.

kakashi: We meet more important characters in this episode and I will introduce them in turn. They had me at 2nd Prince. Just LOOK at him. JoAnne: Um, Kakashi? I think that's KO, from Love O2O. The one Trot and I raved about. The chef who could undress you with his eyes. Yeah. This is gonna be good .

kakashi: Oh my god. Tortured Feng Tianyi breaks my shipper heart in two. Despite the many lust hormones this guy makes me release - they cloud my thinking - I realize for the first time that this show might actually end in bitter, bitter tears. JoAnne: No way. They have to be together in the end, right?

kakashi: This drama's full title is Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms  (三生三世十里桃花). It also goes as Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms or, more prosaically, Eternal Love . I'm so in love with it. The first episode introduces many, many characters and I will give you a short introduction to each of them, as I start the journey into this delightful feast for the eyes, which is sure to break our hearts many times over. JoAnne: For someone who wasn't very excited about this, watching very little of it changed my mind completely. And yay! We're recapping! Well, Kakashi the Lionhearted is recapping, and I get to comment!  PS. I very much like '3310' as the shorthand for this title, which I think our friend and learned reader coined ? SakiVI: They find another tomb! And a possible enemy appears in the distant horizon. Read on. kakashi: Many tombs, no monsters . But lovely desert pictures. JoAnne: And that one petrified seal from when it was an ocean, I guess. Trotwood: I could use some enemies since we don't seem to be getting any monsters. You know it's bad when I'm missing the ants.

kakashi: I'm late to the fun, but I've started watching Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu/We Married as a Job. It is my first JDrama! I'll write about it below. Trotwood: I thought you were going to watch Bloody Monday? That would be for work :(( So I'm not that eager. But it's good and tense (if not realistic). SakiVI: Really busy these days. Not sure how I'm finding time or energy to watch anything, and yet I am. JoAnne: My list is about like normal but I'm watching fewer actual episodes lately, running behind on a lot. I think it's what constitutes a break for me. I also picked up Merman Kasuo and the Chinese Drama with the title filling a whole tweet: Three Lives, Three Worlds and Then Miles of Peach Blossoms . Which I can't stop watching. It's funny, isn't it? So far, I mean.

kakashi: Oh! Who is this, all colorful and crazy looking?! JoAnne:  I don't know, but his hair looks wormy and that will bother me. I have a thing. SakiVI: that thing on his lip looks like a cold sore. 

kakashi: We continue our crazy journey through/around Sacred Snow Mountain and honestly, I think I enjoy these episodes the best. The writers stop at nothing. I really couldn't stop laughing. JoAnne: I wonder if that's the effect they were going for? SakiVI: Production is already spending the money, so might as well go all in!

SakiVI: We get a preview, or a synopsis of what we are looking for and the history. We might be dealing with a demon, people. But not quite yet. kakashi: We also get the most boring episode ever. It's like a museum guided tour, just much more boring. JoAnne: If my museum guide looked like Bayi I'd be ...well, I don't know what I'd be. Something good. You'd be paying a lot of attention? How could she pay attention with all that drooling?

kakashi: Things in that Wingkind City sure are no fun for Wingkind Emperor. I hate to see him suffer, but at the same time, we get to know him from a completely different side and it does not make him less likeable. He isn't nasty at all, he is just sad and trying to fight those who humiliate him whenever they get a chance or want to outright kill him. We realize that Fuling is someone who gives him strength; and that's one of the reasons why she has become a very important person for him. JoAnne: We loves him, we does. We loves WKE.

SakiVI: Our team set out on the next stage of their journey and finally, as we can expect, resolve their immediate water crisis. They also find a new tomb, so it's a new stage of the adventure for them. Oh, and the camels are cute. kakashi: A new tomb, but no Lurch . Trotwood: Hurray!! More tombs? Will someone (cough--a student--cough) die? JoAnne: We're quite bloodthirsty, aren't we? Every week we hope someone dies.

kakashi: Awwww, Wingie ... don't be sad. We're all here for you and will make your boo-boos go away. JoAnne: Or at least distract you from them.

SakiVI: This a very busy episode with dangerous bugs, creepy statues, cranky tomb raiders, camels in pink, and some very silly archaeologists. kakashi: Quite a normal day in Candle in the Tomb, really . Trotwood: Hurray! Excitement. (getting out my popcorn) JoAnne: I have something to drink. All this sand makes me thirsty. At least it doesn't seem hot where they are. In this country, deserts are hot and then at night the temperature can drop drastically. But here, it seems more temperate? Maybe in the way the glacier wasn't really cold...hmm . J Episode 11 Bayi looks carefully at the egghead statue with big eyes and sees that there is a thick, jelly-like red ant. It's pretty big. Maybe not corpse eater big but big. And it doesn't look nice. For the record, ants never look nice. Unless they're in a Disney movie .
