Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 16 FINAL (WookiCap)

Image
I have a tremendously HUGE smile on my face right now! And it's not because I drank prosecco with my mother. No, it's because this drama DID IT! It stayed good until the end, it did NOT mess up the ending, it made SENSE, it had no major character fuck ups (despite the few characters which were plain redundant and/or super annoying!), and it was entertaining from beginning to end. BRAVO, you. BRAVO! And thank you. You gave us Joo Sang-wook in a RomCom and you gave him a character I will never forget. RomCom lives! Long live the RomCom! JoAnne: This was just a quality piece of work from beginning to end, in every category you can think of. I am so happy right now.

Remember the end of episode 14 and how we suspected noble idiocy was up next? Well ... that. Let's say people TRY to be noble idiots in this episode, quite hard ... but they don't really succeed. Why? Because this drama is not quite like other dramas. This drama rocks. And it does so to its and in its penultimate episode. I want to hug and kiss the writer for this because when was the last time I could happily await the final episode, without the dreadful knowledge that there is no way, NO WAY the writer could wrap this up in a satisfactory way? JoAnne: I am using this drama to wash the bad taste GG-14D left in my mouth, so if the writer knows what's good for him/her, they will not disappoint me. I want skinship, I want a puppy who stays good, and I want RoboLeg to fall down a few more hills. kakashi: So be it!

We turn dark in this episode, as expected, and the Gooks go completely insane, collectively. Maybe they're all cyborgs - and somebody activated the Looney-switch? Overall, there's a lot of annoying stuff in this episode ... but also some very, very good scene between our OTP. I'm quite okay with the annoying stuff as well, since we're swiftly moving towards the end: There cannot be too much idiocy anymore. JoAnne: I think the kids will regain their footing before they do major damage. I hope so anyway.

Fuzzy, fuzzy, fuzzy, warm, warm, warm feeeeeeeeels. Goodness, Cha Jung-woo as puppy in love is more adorable than anything I've seen in a long, long time. Where is the backlash though?! It's coming, right? *steels herself* Yeah, there's traces of it already, so brace yourselves! JoAnne: His stupid big head self is so adorable. But my puppy.

In this episode, a doctor diagnoses lovesickness and that's what was needed to make Jung-woo realize what's quite wrong with him these days. Good! Finally! It can no longer be ignored! JoAnne: Someone connect the dots between plastic flower and lovesickness for me, please. kakashi: I'm willing to bet it's an awesome sub-fail, haha .

Man child Jung-woo is going more insane in this episode. Man, he is suffering! The show still manages to hit the right weird mixture between absolutely hilarious and occasionally serious for me. And it's about time feelings are clarified. We are making progress, at least in some quarters. JoAnne: This show was a bit of an underdog for me, so it's interesting to realize how solidly paced and acted it actually has been. I'm glad I watched! And not just for the pretty men, or even Lee Min Jung who is one of my favs. kakashi: Oh, but the men ....... so pretty. Hmmmmm....

More entanglement, more feels. More Joo Sang-woo at his best. I like this drama, I really do. JoAnne:  Me too!  I feel bad for all the people who read the premise and decide against it.  But then again, when does a premise EVER match what the drama actually does?  So they just get what they deserve, I guess, if they miss out on this.

It's confession time - but who will get to confess and who will not? Also, more delightful silliness from Joo Sang-wook. And man, he does agonized well ... it's broody shower time. Very much so. JoAnne: You mislead me, and I cry foul. There was not one single broody shower in this, but Joo Sang Wook definitely needed one. kakashi: Oh, I'm sorry ... did I make you all excited? What I wanted to say is this: it's agony-angst time, I really think you need to get into the shower, Joo Sang-wook.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 8 (WookiCap)

We're reaching the half-way point with an extreme mix of utterly silly and heartbreaking sad. Hardship split them up, but now, new hardship forces them to realize that they still mean a lot to each other ... and that their lives, though forcefully split, are still tied up with each other in a way that makes ignoring, and even further hurting your ex-spouse impossible. In a way, I got what I wanted: seeing them interact like grown-ups. But I definitely didn't get the cute that I ordered in the previous WookiCap. Be ready to cry. JoAnne: I watched three dads die this weekend in dramas. This was not the hardest one, and I'm glad because I couldn't have taken two like that. I wondered how they would find their way back in to each other and this seems to be the door. Interesting that more than one drama chose the exact same path.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 7 (WookiCap)

Image
This show doesn't seem to know whether it wants to be funny or sad or something in between and trying to keep up with the tone and mood is starting to give me whiplash! Our leads can't make up their minds either, are they sad, are they sorry, are they grateful or just mad? Do I care? Not really. I like this show. Also, thankfully, both the second leads aren't annoying or stupid or anything that seconds leads usually do, so this episode has this going for it. And it has this:  JoAnne: That curl. It kills me. And I do SO love a serious man who can lampoon himself. kakashi: I love watching him in this. And I constantly think "this is really going to make watching him in TEN3 kinda difficult".

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 6 (WookiCap)

This episode brings the awaited and necessary moment of truth. No longer in the mood to hurt each other given a real-world crisis that both touches Ae-ra's family and his company at the same time, Ae-ra and Jung-woo get an emotionally loaded moment to express their hurts and grievances with each other. We also see how much in love Second Lead really is with Jung-woo and how fast her brother is falling in love as well. This is a very strong episode - though it comes with a different timbre that is much more sombre than the silliness we had before.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 5 (WookiCap)

Image
Did you think the power was too unevenly distributed in Cha Jung-woo's favor last week? Well, she gets quite a bit of power back in this episode, and pays him back for making her cry and then some. Among the meaneries and childishness, there are attempts to talk to each other. These two haven't been mean to each other for long, but it seems they're already tired of it. That's good - we need to see that they care for each other.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 4 (WookiCap)

Another episode that doesn't lose time with the side-characters. Nice! The formula, so far, has been this: they say goodbye and make it sound like they mean it. But then, something happens to throw them together again. Sometimes, she is more on top of things and in control, sometimes, it's him. In this episode, it's him. I am SO GLAD Joo Sang-wook took this role.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 3 (WookiCap)

Image
This drama continues to make me laugh, and this episode in particular had almost only OTP interactions, with a little bit of other stuff on the side. Exactly what I want. Of course, I know it will not last ... in about three weeks, we will most likely enter angst territory and all the usual KDrama wtfuckery hullabaloo, but, whatever, let's enjoy this while it is enjoyable. The only thing missing so far is a Joo Sang-wook shower scene.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 2 (A Recap very much focused on Joo Sang-wook aka WookiCap)

Image
This drama doesn't seem to be getting much love (yet?), which is fine with me, because it simply means more Joo Sang-wook for me. Haha, come to mama, Gorgeous! I enjoyed episode 2, for the stupidity and pettiness of these characters and I must say, I am looking forward to the coming let's-see-who-can-be-more-childish shenanigans. This is simply not to be taken seriously. I said the other day that I will most likely not recap this show, but now I realize that that might mean JSW's gorgeousness might not be properly squeed over?! Noooo! That's sacrilege! So this is what I will do: the equivalent of my KimJiCaps (recaps focused only on Kim Ji-hoon scenes in Kim Ji-hoon dramas) for Joo Sang-wook. Let's call them WookiCaps.

Cunning Single Lady / Sly and Single Again - Episode 1 (A First Look and Briefcap)

Image
Joo Sang-wook in a romcom! I'm DEAD! I am a huge fan of his, but have had quite some issues with some of his drama choices. I did watch Good Doctor (*shudders*), but without subs and lots of fastforwarding, almost threw up over Paradise Ranch (dropped immediately), got a melo-rash over Thorn Birds (dropped immediately), and fell asleep every time I tried Feast of the Gods (dropped immediately). Thank goodness for the TEN Series, but they are not everybody's cup of tea. Anyway, Joo Sang-wook in a romcom seems like a dream come true, so I decided to do a briefcap of the first episode of this. Anyway ... this drama is off to a great start! (and continues awesome , too) I sat there with a huge grin on my face for at least the first half. It's completely over the top in almost everything it does, but it works.
